ATTN: Laptop peoples

Not sure...I just got my x61s and I love it...best computer I've owned by far. I'd take into serious consideration a t series...read nothing but good things. You can price match within 21 days too.

I believe chris was lookin at the base T 15.4".

Yeah I forgot to change that on the Dell..that's $30 more, so makes the HP look that much better..
As for the RAM, I was going to go with 4 gig, but didn't even think of getting 1 DIMM and doing a stick of 2 gig, since 32bit Vista will only recognize 3 gigs and change, correct?
Depends on the hardware in the unit, but yeah, it'll only be able to use up to 3 and a bit GB in most configurations ...

Just a little update, considering a XPS1330 as well.
Got a new job where I'll be making more monies, so may spend a bit more on a lappy after Xmas.

Built an XPS with similar specs to the last Inspiron I priced out, came to $1199 w/ $300 off coupons.

I'll probably stick with either the Inspiron 1420, or the HP 2500t, but the XPS is now a consideration...just have to decide if I want to spend the extra couple hundred on one..
http://alchemy-computers.com/laptops.html might check those out. I'm sure i can get alaxan to chime in.

If you are looking at the two of them side by side they are very comparable. Have you checked y site yet for a laptop as well? I do start off a little higher on price than them, but... I also have only HD screens on my systems. The Dell has a glossy screen which can be very annoying if you are in a well lit room. The HP you are looking at has a screen that is only WXGA but it will still be a nice display.

It is always minor differences on the systems tho that make the price and "discount" either worthwhile or not. Really, in the end it depends on what you want to do with the system. If you plan on doing any gaming... I'd not really recommend either of them. They would do alright on some older games, but on newer games comming out, they really aren't up to par.

If you are going to be using it for only internet and a few other things of that nature, it should be fine to go either route. If you have any other questions give me a shout.

(btw.. I may have not posted in a cpl weeks, but I have been here watching the drama... I still check in and read the forums as time allows //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif)

Sony and Dell are the only 2 computer companies i would own. After working in a computer repair store i replaced power supplies in HP/Compaq on a daily basis
Power supplies in a laptop eh? Interesting for a computer repair tech.... glad I never had to bring one of my systems to you.

Dell owns alienware //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
Dell owns Alienware on paper only. Dell does not offer systems nearly as capable as any of the alienware laptops or desktops. Alienware still runs indepently from Dell and does their own thing when it comes to systems.

Those Alchemy laptops all start at $1700...for what I want, it wouldn't make sense to go with one..

I don't need a HD screen, I have a 50" DLP for that...I don't need a gaming system, either. Really just want a basic laptop with nice performance. Want something with a nice processor, a good amount of RAM (will do aftermarket, though), a wireless N card built in, bluetooth, and 14.1", with pretty good pq. That's about it, really.

I'll most likely go the route of the HP as for the money it seems to be the best deal. I'll have to look into the Lenovo a bit more, but right now the HP is most likely what I'll be doing.

EH... So what ur saying is... that even the top end high graphics games like Crysis and such would have a problem on a laptop? I happen to have PCI-express runing on my laptop right now which outperforms 98% of the desktops on the market right now. If I want to I can even add on a phys-x card. Really now, why would I need a desktop when I now have an easily portable LAN gaming system?

Yes... desktops can go all out and get a bit more, but... it's not out of range to expect a laptop system to be able to run as a gaming rig at all.

Whoa there, buddy ... I never said they COULDN'T game or run games well ...
The reason why you SHOULD get a desktop if you're looking for a gaming computer is because it's significantly cheaper to build and upgrade, you have a much wider variety of parts available, and it will generally be more reliable (more space, more airflow ... assuming you know WTF you're doing, of course).

Yes, if you're the type that LANs a lot, then a gaming laptop may be worth the extra cost, but for most people who game, they would be better off w/ a gaming desktop and a basic laptop which they could get for less money than the gaming laptop itself ...

vista sucks //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif crashes my computer, switching back to XP!
Maybe your computer sucks ... or you don't know WTF you're doing ... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif
