ATTN: Laptop peoples

I got a real good deal from the dell outlet, it's no super computer but for the price I thought it was a steal.

Inspiron 1501

-AMD Turion 64 Mobile Technology MK-36 (2.0GHz)

-1 GB DDR2 SDRAM 533MHz (2 DIMMs)

-15.4 WXGA Notebook Screen Display with TrueLife

-Windows Vista Premium

-80 gig HD

-8X DVD +/- RW w/dbl layer write capability

-ATI Radeon Xpress 1150 256MB HyperMemory

Like I said, its no supercomputer, but for $400 I can't complain. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

It was a "scratch and dent" model, but I couldn't find a scratch on it.

Just to bump this up, I think I'm most likely going to go w/ a Dell, something along the lines of this config:

SYSTEM COLOR Alpine White edit

Not sure if I should stick w/ the 3100 video card, or upgrade to the GeForce 8400M card for $75...

I wouldn't buy a laptop unless mobility was an absolute must, and even then depending on the task, I'd only get something cheap and use it intermittently. I.e. term lab testing in a car.

For anything else a desktop pc is a must. I'll goto newegg and build one myself.

Also, I had a hp "desktop replacement" laptop. Don't get an HP...

me and my friend had one...The batteries dont last long, and the charger plug to the laptop loosens overtime and if you move the laptop without holding it in place the power dies and it shuts off. eventually I had to keep tension on the cord to keep it from shutting off, even then it dies randomly. My friend's laptop's screen started screwing up, he has to bang on it to get the colors back to normal, I guess it's a loose ribbon cable inside the screen, but they're a pain to take apart and fix it. And it may not be the problem...they're just not very durable. Dropped it once out of my locker inside a bag (3.5' high), took out the screen, had to get it replaced, tech support wiped my hard drive.

I have a capable PC, I need a laptop for mobility.

I never wanted one, up until I bought one for my g/f, I find myself constantly having to use hers.

Dell rules for laptops. Nothing beats them unless you want to go insane with a Voodoo/Alienware or something. I have a core 2 duo Inspiron 6400 w/ screen upgrade and it kicks ***.

Acers / HPs / etc tend to have way shittier build quality.

Dell owns alienware //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I have a few friends that bought refurbed laptops from TigerDirect and have been really happy so far. Dirt cheap. The Dell Outlet is pretty good as well.
