ATTN: Laptop peoples

I am on the Dell 1521 laptop.. and it only has the single core processor and i love mine.. does what I need it to do.. basically getting online.. but will run games, programs, music, etc.. all great.. Dell IMO..

I built a pretty compatible Thinkpad for around $1100, but the thing is, I never really come across deals for IBM's like I do for Dell/HP.
It almost seems as if every month there's a $400 off $1200 coupon, or 30% off coupon for Dell/HP laptops.
Dude you need to watch forums.slickdeals.net

There are always deals on thinkpads, but i would still get an XPS.

If the main reason for the laptop is gaming, you will not notice the difference in the processors. They are both fast but the core 2 will be a little faster overall. My 1280x800 display is crystal clear but I have not used the two side by side to compare the difference in the resolution.
I have owned both Dell and HP and have never had problems with either so I cannot comment on the service.

Have you checked to see what an Acer would cost in those configurations?
I really won't be gaming much at all, I'll be doing more multitasking then anything. I was going to settle with a $4-500 laptop, something with a decent dual-core processor, a gig ram, etc., but figured I'd just get something that has better specs. The plan was to get a cheap laptop, and build a new computer, as my desktop is a little behind as far as what's out there now, but I figured I'd just build a nice laptop from someone, and just keep the desktop as is for now.

Good call on Acer, too- totally forgot about them. Gonna look into that now.

i would take dell right now since my buddy thats lives next door has a Hp and has had problems with it since he has got it.

Well my mom has an HP, and my g/f has a Compaq- my mom has had the HP for just about a year, and my g/f has the Compaq for about 3 months now, and neither of them have had a problem yet, knock on wood.

If i were you I would throw down for 2gb of memory, vista is a memory hog and a half. As far as which brand I prefer HP, never liked dell had a lot of problems with hem in the past, I have owned 2 compaq(same thing) laptops with relatively few issues. The 2 year warranty is a plus as well.

I'm on there right now, lol.

It seems like Dell/HP has more consistent, better deals- I see a lot of deals on the Lenovo's, but they seem to be on whatever stock they have left, and are gone quickly.

Yeah saw that

I said in the original post I'll be doing 4gig ram through aftermarket, as it'll cost me a good amount less then going through the manufacturer to get ram.
