At What Point Can You REALLY Hear the Difference?

How long do you think you have to listen to car audio or be experienced with car audio before you can really tell the difference between headunits, subs, speakers, etc.? I guess with subs and speakers I could probably tell a difference, but I'm not so sure about headunits or amps. I haven't done a whole lot of comparing, but I'm just wondering what everyone thinks or has experienced.

I think the idea that it's irrational to determine how a sub sounds without trying it in multiple alignments has been overlooked by many- a sub will only sound the way the install tells it to...

The best way to learn how something sounds is to learn what kind of alignment it can really shine in- and this can change from vehicle to vehicle. I think it's important for people to realize this...

It's hard to justify these statements until you do a direct a/b test and eliminate all variables.

Since that is near impossible to do properly - the best logic is to say everything will alter the end result somehow - but it's equally plausible to make them all sound identical also.

That is true...I was just trying to make a point that you cannot simply determine how something will sound from hearing it out of your friends car- it can, and most likely, will, sound different in different environments.

Lol that stuff is priceless. If I had big enough room in my sig I'd add all that.

I think the only way to tell a difference is to have the same car with all the same stuff except change 1 thing at a time. Now you'd waste a lot of money there, but you'd get the point.
