amplifier wiring

I was wondering if bridging an amplifier changes the impedence. I know if you wire subs in parallel or series then the impedence changes say from 4ohm to 2ohm (parallel) or 8ohm (series), but someone once told me that if you wire two 4ohm subs in parallel that you can somehow get a 1ohm impedence. Any comments?

Well that person told you a bunch of #%^** ,two four ohm drivers in series would stay four ohms. Two four ohm drivers in parallel ,however you spell it are two ohm's. Four four ohm drivers in parallel are still four ohm's. How do you think those huge competition rigs run 10 or more subs off two 2400 watt mono amps.they just run them in series. They have the power to do it.And can keep the impedence where they want it at 1,2,or four oms. I've seen a rig that ran the 50 watt class run 8 10's ,4-6 inch and 4 tweets off a orion 225hcca all because he wired the subs in series and had caps on all the mids and tweets. Enough said. good luck.

if the subs are dvc you can run them in parallel to get a 1ohm load but if they are svc they will be 2 ohms. you can also run 2 dvc 4ohm subs at 4 ohms too in a series. but with the svc 4 ohm sub i think its like 8 ohms but im not for sure. i hope this helps and im pretty sure that this info is right. if i could get to the old rf wiring wizard id be able to tell ya for sure.

When that person said 1 ohm, I believe this is what they were refering to - If you bridge a 4 channel amp to one svc you get a 4 ohm bridged load and each amp channel sees 2 ohms. If you run two svc subs parallel via bridging an amp, the amp sees a 2ohm bridged load or 1 ohm per channel. You would need an amp that is 2ohm bridged stable.
