Hail to the King Baby!!!!
right now, i have a civic ex 99 with the stock alt and a fosgate1001bd amp and a 4 channel alpine amp. i updraged 2 of the 3 wires, because i didnt have enough wire and didnt wana put the effort in to put new wire in from the alternator to battery. my lights still dim horribly and i wanted to know if i should get a new alt, and if so, is mr alternator a reputable company?

my stock alternator in my truck was a 45 amp alternator, I had to call 6 different places to finally have someone to agree to install a H/O alternator in my truck. Seeing is that I purchased a 200 amp alternator, which is 4 times the amperage of my stock alternator. Every place I contacted told me that it would fry everything, So finally one place agreed to install it on the basis that "they are not responsible for any complications that may result" So I went ahead and did it. Everything works amazingly, no light dimming, and my amp is getting all the juice it needs. I would highly recommend getting a H/O alternator. Also I got really lucky and found the 200 amp alternator for $175, can't beat that.

Sounds like you need a capacitor. Rule of thumb; 1 farad/ 1000 watts. Go with names you trust, too. My friend installed a 1farad RF cap and it cured all the problems he had with dimming lights and improved the power of his bass kicks.

NO please dont go with a cap. If you need an explantion as to why let me know.

If u want a new alt... look on ebay for a 150amp alt. Around 250$. If you want more than 150amps like i did, contact Dominick @ dominick@tds.net. I got my 220amp alt for 380$ shipped to my door. Yes its a little pricey but its very very well worth it.

also remember, with high amperage alts, idle output is lower than that of a slightly lower output alt.

A 200+A alt during idle might produce pathetic power during idle, as compared to a 120A alt. It's only when the revs climb that the high power ones give out enormous power.

Actually, i believe excessive's alts put out over 100 at idle once they kick on at 900 RPM. Thats who i'm going with if i ever decide to upgrade.

erm, you going to change the pulley to the size of a peanut? lol~
This is what nathan from excessive amperage emailed me.

"The output at idle will depend on your vehicles rpms at idle. The alternator will turn on around 800 rpm and will put out 100 + amps when it turns on - 200 amps under 2000 rpm"
