I have the following...

- JBL Pro Power P-80.4 Amp (4-channel)

- Infinity Kappa 52.3i 5-1/4" 2-way 225W Speakers (Front - Pair)

- Infinity Kappa 63.3i 6-1/2" 3-way 225W Speakers (Rear - Pair)

- Rockford Fosgate CP7400 1 Farad Cap

- JBL BP1200.1 Power Series Mono Amp

- Infinity Kappa Perfect Subwoofers 12.1 (Pair)

- 12" 1.25cf Dual 3/4" MDF Hatch-Style Subwoofer Box

- Pioneer DEH-P740MP CD/MP3 Player - OEL Display

With this setup, how powerful should my alternator be, and what kind of battery should I have? Any ideas of where to buy both of these cheap? By the way, I drive a 1990 2-Door Chrysler LeBaron Convertible GT. Thank you!

 
2 Gauge main power wire(don't forget the ground wire too)

1 or 2 farads of capacitance

Optima 800 cold cranking amp battery( a regular 800cca battery will work, I just really like the optimas)

An alternator rated for at least 125amps

Okay, so how about these...

It sounds good to me, up here in Canada, I would have to shell out at least 200bucks for that same alternator, and Exide makes good battery's so you should fine with that equipment.

Upgrade to a capacitator if you find that your transients in the bass are a bit sloppy and don't skimp on the power wire.

A couple suggestions for cheap power and speaker wires are -

WELDING CABLE- Its cheap and can handle high current, downside is that it will oxidize over a few years(white crusty crap on the terminals) but if you are constantly changing your system around every couple years, oxidation should not be a problem.

LAMP CORD- Its cheap and will make great high power speaker wire, but it has the same drawbacks as the welding cable. Whats the difference between the two?-Oxygen free cables are the most resistant to oxidization and lamp cords and welding cable/boostercable are not made from oxygen free copper, therfore they will oxidize over time( 2 to 3 years in an automotive environment ).
