I have a chance with my DoD job. I have seen section 8 housing look better than some housing over there. Many people live in dorms.

Is that Japan or China? I would sort of expect it in China....Communism looks great on paper, but there is yet to be a good implementation of it. All the power is still held by too few.
If you were referring to Japan I'd be surprised, thats not what I would picture at all.
Japan. The base housing and housing I can afford is quite small.

Eh, not a lot of land mass to work with, I'd expect real estate to be rather outrageous there. Heck, its bad enough here in Florida, and its not exactly the safest state to live in!
That is why they live in high rise dorms. It is also rather moutainous, exacerbating the problem.
