Accutane, anyone ever used it?

Who's used it? Has it really worked, and how were the side effects? I'll be going on it in a couple days or so and I'm a little worried about the alcohol aspect. I'm not some crazy alcoholic but I do like to drink somewhat, and this has me a little worried. I sure as fuck don't want any liver diseases but I like drinking with friends on the weekends and don't really want to stop for the next 6 months.

(I know I'm underage but, honestly, who didn't drink when they were 17...)

Oh, and how long did it usually take with what dosages? She's starting me off with 20mg a day( I assume?) for 2 weeks then bumping it up to 40mg for the next 2 and then I'll go back to see her.
i didnt drink when i was 17

I took it for a while when i was a little bit younger than you.

Worked MUCH better than the perscriptioin creams that would dry out my face leaving me looking like some sort of leper. It would work in what seemed like cycles. So from the time i took it my acne would gradually get better, and then i'd have a breakout that basically returned me to what i was like before... and then things would get slightly better than where they were before the breakout and then a week or so later i'd get a breakout that was about what i was like before the last breakout... so on so forth until my skin was just like everyone elses if not better. Worked fantastically.

I stopped a bit early. I still have pimples occasionally... basically i'm human.

The side effects?

The first day i took the medication i slept 23 hours straight. It really drained me. I didn't feel sick or anything, i was just very tired. Beyond that people told me i was more irritable and less happy when i was on the medication, although i never noticed any change and felt perfectly fine. Everyone close to me said i changed a lot while on the medication though, so i would recommend possibly matching it with an anti-depressant.

Would i do it again? Honestly, yes. It boosted my self-esteem quite a bit. It was worth it. Assuming you're not a pregnant woman, you'll probably be fine. My girlfriends mom was on that medication and didn't know she was preggers.... and the child is retarded... nice, but retarded.

Don't drink if you can avoid it. That medication is tough on your liver, and any competent physician is going to want to do blood tests once a month to monitor how you're doing. I drank on various occasions and had no other problems than a smelly dick.

Yea i forgot to mention the back pains... Its like a little 'twinge' pain in the lower to middle part of my back that I get usually when laying down... I still get it today as Accutane is present in ur blood for a while... But it has faded away alot since I got off it.

drinking is for posers anyways. Just smoke weed dude

Does that mean you girlfriend is retarded?

well i was on this for about 6 months my dermatologest said that i was the worst case of acne he had seen in years, i went in the first time and went straight on it, i was also on pretnazone to help with the swelling and to stop my zits from getting bigger, while i was on this i had many trips where they had to cut the zits off my shoulders and back i still have huge scars today

but for the side affects when i was on it i just got really dry skin and everything, it really hurt to wear shirts because of the stuff on my shoulders and this helped alot but i did get really depresed half way threw my cycle i didnt want to do it anymore and it got kinda bad but when i got off it got better but almost no acne today just little ones every now and then

I got back pains for the first month or so, trying to lay down was a nightmare. I believe I was on 40mg a day, for 6 months. Doctor tried 60 every other day, and that dried my face quick and in a hurry. I cut back the dosage myself, which he advised if I got unusual/quick drying. Worked like a charm. And before I went this route, I used every facial cleaner, twice a day, and whenever I was done doing yardwork and such. No good, acne was still there. Shoulders, chest, face, etc.

I am not sure if it kind of boosted my disposition to be depressed, but I have noticed some wicked mood swings since then. Not cutting my wrists or writing shitty music depression, but a definite swing.

Thanks for all the info guys.

I'm a little worried about the dry lips part. I can't stand having chapped lips and really don't like using chaptsick but I will if I have to, and by the sounds of it, I will.

Looks like I'll be going for blood tests tomorrow or friday so I should be on it by the weekend.

One other thing, other than Lingerfelt, nobody mentioned cholesteral levels.

I'm in decent shape and average weight, but I don't really eat all that healthy so I'm wondering if I should maybe change my diet a little. Anyone else had problems with that?

I had tried EVERYTHING on the market, and then did Accutane at the beginning of my freshman year of high school. Best thing I've ever done for myself. Cleared everything up and I've never had a single issue with acne since...
