Accutane, anyone ever used it?

Who's used it? Has it really worked, and how were the side effects? I'll be going on it in a couple days or so and I'm a little worried about the alcohol aspect.

I'm not some crazy alcoholic but I do like to drink somewhat, and this has me a little worried. I sure as fuck don't want any liver diseases but I like drinking with friends on the weekends and don't really want to stop for the next 6 months.

(I know I'm underage but, honestly, who didn't drink when they were 17...)

Oh, and how long did it usually take with what dosages? She's starting me off with 20mg a day( I assume?) for 2 weeks then bumping it up to 40mg for the next 2 and then I'll go back to see her.

I took it and probably the best move i made. I was 17 just like you and it cleared my face up like nothing else did. I occasionally get a pimple here and there but it is way better than before. I still drank with it and it didn't effect me at all. I think i started with the same dosage as you and worked my way up. I'm pretty sure you go for a blood test every month to make sure everything is fine and then they up the dosage. I never had bad side effects, some people do but I never did and none of my friends did that were on it.

Yeah, I have to go in for a baseline bloodtest before I can start it just so she knows where I'm at to begin with. After that it's one a month I beleive, like you said.

How long were you on it?

The fiancee is on it and sometimes her mood gets in a downturn but sshe was predisposed to that condition to begin with. It has cleared her up quick. She is on a 6 month cycle, the lowest dosage and it took maybe a week or two and she was starting to clear up. She thinks its the greatest move she has made.

I finisht accutane over 1.5 years ago and I feel the side effects still today. It stays in your blood for a LONG TIME. Its a great drug, but side effects are harsh. I took it twice a day for like 4 months I think - Blood tests every other week.

Downsides:

Very dry skin... I still have dry skin today from it. Probably will take many more years to become normal again. Also it does increase sunburnability lol. So just wear sunscreen whenever ur outside over the summer. Blood tests every other week **** balls. Also I noticed it turns your cheek areas a reddish tint because of all the dryness. It fades away though - just the dryness is epic with this - be sure to prepare yourself for buying alot of Chapstick.

Pros:

It does its job. Great move! like someone earlier said - probably best move for someone with bad acne whos tried alot.

Accutane was the best thing that ever happened to me. I spent 2-3 bouncing around between OTC treatments and prescriptions (Retin-A, Tetracycline, etc) and Accutane was the only thing that worked.

This was a while ago so I can't tell you how quickly it worked, but by the end of the regimen I was completely clear, and my acne was so bad that I didn't have a smooth/non-oily patch of skin on my face...

Now, four years later, I still have yet to have more than a single, little pimple on my face...

It WILL dry your skin up like it's going out of style. From the very beginning, use moisturizer/lip balm EVERY DAY no matter how gay it makes you feel. Cracking and peeling to the point of bleeding is not cool.

As far as sun protection goes - I am photosensitive and therefore burn easily already. It honestly isn't that big of a deal, I'm sure a normal person could get away with ocassionally using sunscreen.

It will mess with your cholesterol and liver functions. I didn't drink at the time so I don't know about that, but you may have to change your diet.

Edit: I believe I was on a 10 week deal? And I believe I took 2 40mg pills a day.

I was on all of those drugs before too and nothing worked until I went on this. I didn't have that bad of dry skin because I would use lotion that was the key.
I didn't start using lotion right away... up until I could peel half my lip off because it was so dry... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wow.gif.23d729408e9177caa2a0ed6a2ba6588e.gif

After that I user Aquaphor trial samples from the dermatologist every day for my lips, beautiful thing. Eucerin ftw.

I was on it for two rounds with about a year inbetween. 60mg/day iirc. The only bad part was some lower back pain. I've been good for 5 years.

hm? proactive ftw? lol.

i dont think i could ever go through all that to get a clear mug unless my face was that busted. i mean i dont have a pretty face but back pains? liver problems? no thanks.
