86 buick skylark, where do i put the head unit?

i have a 86 buick skylark that came with a delco radio, only problem is there was one too many stupid engineers at delco at the time. the actual deck sits on the floor at the bottom of the console and the display is mounted above the console, the display was not deck shaped, it is not deep and i cant find a place to put the head unit, it will not fit in the console because the console is too narrow and it will not fit above in a pocket because the top of the console where the display was mounted is too small to house a pocket, if there are earnest people out there, i could take a pic of the dask console area, i will appreciate any help thanks Anthonyfg@attbi.com

I would seek advice from a pro install shop. Hopefuly they will be kind enough to share their secrets with you. It looks like you will need to do some dash cutting. If you can find room on the dash console where the HVAC will not be affected, and there is enough clearance behind it, then check for a place where you could cut a DIN opening. If this wouldn't work, I'd look into a bracket that can mount under the dash, to the right or left of the steering wheel. The only problem with that is you may experience CD skipping. If your not up to the task you could pay a pro install shop to do it but be prepared to pay $75-$100 for the custom install.

If I remember correctly, there is a pocket in your console, and the tape deck is next to it.....or something like that. There is a kit for that but you have to cut part of the dash to pake a long hole for the din radio to fit in then a pocket replaces the display up top. the kit then fits where you cut the dash. It is not a beginner installer job so be careful, unless of course you have the experience
