81000d Problems....

Alright I let a buddy borrow my MTX 81000d to use on his D2's. He pulled up to my house with the subs on, I took the amp out and put on the table in my house. My friend came over 30 mins. later to hook it up because we were going to nashville to sell one of his HC's. We hooked it up and checked all wires. The subs play but they arent pushing any air. They over excurt easliy, and there is really no sound. It's really wierd and I have never heard of this happening. I don't know what to do except hook it back up in his car and see what happens. If you all have any suggestions then just let me know....

Does the sub only go out ?

I think so but I thought the sub was supposed to do that and when you flip the wires it ***** in....

Sounds like the subs are wired out of Phase???

Switch the + and - on 1 sub and see if they are "pushing" together.

So I need to rewire them?....

I just couldnt believe it because I had just took the amp out of the truck and 5 minutes later we were working on hooking the subs up. Once I hooked them up that stuff happened. I am surely glad the amp isnt messed up I didnt know what was wrong.

So I need to switch the positive and neg. right?...

BTW these are 2 Brahma 12's which are dual 2 ohm. So I need to change one voice coil or both on one sub?...

You're on the right track...

Series/Parallel is #38 & #58.

Parallel the coils on each woofer to drop the woofer impedance to 1ohm

+ to +

- to -

then series the speakers to the amp to bring the impedance back to 2ohms

Amp+ to Spkr1++

Spkr1-- to Spkr2++

Spkr2-- to Amp--

This is not the only way, but should work for the amp/woofer combo presented.

Don't parallel it all up or the amp will run into low impedance protection as it would be seeing 1/2 ohm all paralleled up.

Well I hooked it back up and it works perfectly in my friends car. I guess my friend's wiring, abcdefg, was off....

I wired my subs up yesterday but I am waiting to put it back together becuase I just got it out of the shop. Once I get it running, if I have any problems I'll let you all know. Thanks alot for helping me, it kind of scared me a little..
