4x6's for a POS car

I have a very nice low end system (2 Jl w3's on a 1500 amp) and now im gonna finally replace my craptactular factor spearks. Unfortunatly i have 4x6's, I could make a plate system with possibly a MB quart 4" componet set or even JL (except id have to build a custom plate)

I only have 23 RMS out of my JVC KDSH77 and I dont really have room for an amp upfront, though when i replace my 6x9's (getting audiobahn componet 6x9's) I will amp thoes. Thus it would be really hard to get a componet set to run well on 23 rms. SO i was looking around, but not sure what i want. I've heard good things about infinty 462.3cfp semi componet 4x6s.

thezeb.com has them for 94 bucks

so guys tell me what yout think

The Infinity plate, IMO, would be the best way to go.

Like you said, a component set will handle more power than you have available, as will the infinity plate. Infinity makes great sounding, reliable speakers.

The Infinity plate has already accomplished what you would be doing by putting a component set on a plate.

The only thing you don't get with plate is a highpass crossover for the 4" mid. That can be handled by an inline bassblocker.

My suggestion for imaging purposes is to build kickpanel boxes and mount an amp in the trunk and run wires back up to them.

If kickpanels aren't an option for you, do the components on a plate and the aforementioned amp setup.

If you want a good soundstage it's good practice to play your front speakers louder than your rears. Imaging gets all screwed up when the rear speakers play louder.

I'd spend more time and money up front setting a good soundstage.

Hope this helps.

agreed.

As a SQ competitor, I would strongly reccomend to concentrate on the front stage, use the money you were going to spend on 6"x9"'s toward your front speakers. Kick pannel area components will give you the best results with imaging and soundstage. Installing your speakers in this location will be a little more costly and a bit more difficult, however, the pay-off is well worth the effort.

So, what if i get that infinty then raise the tweeter 2 inches to its flush for immagin?
exactly why are kick's not an option? Every car has them, thus also has the space for them.

As for the other part- the spacing is right- but where are you raising the speaker to? It is really quite difficult to beat the sound of a quality set of kick pannels.

Simply put, i dont have places, its a very small hatchback, i do not have the room for a kick pannel, If im going to as far as chopping the door open I'd invest in 6 1/2's

What i think would work, get the infinity 4x6 remove the tweet from thje board, build a raise with MDF righ ont he speakers, and build it so the immagining woudl not be messed up after window reflection

i think,IMO, that a quality shop COULD build u a set of kicks. if memory serves the citiation is the same car as a pontiac j2000. my brother had one and the front legroom wasn't bad. do a little more checking, i think u'll find u can do kicks.

if u can't, why buy the plate just to cut it up? wouldn't it be easier to get seperates? i don't know about your budget but focal makes some serious quality mid and high sets. they are pricey and u'd need an adapter for u'r doors. but i think u'd be happier.

Well 1. I do not have door speakers

2. I'd get focal, but right now i need to save money so i can get new backs and 2 new amps as well

I have front dash speakers.

My door has many different levels of materal

it goes liek this down

get my point?

so to get a kickpannel I'd have to mold my whole door area before i designed a kick pannel

I refuse to go to a car shop that can do the same thing i can alreayd do. I can fiberglass and do good custom work.

Anyways as i said, it is an 85 Citation, so its only a matter of time bofore my system causes it to implode upon itself

So gettign a set of quality 4x6 plates OR get an 4" Componet set and make a raised tweet would be the best way to go

I should probably save up to buy a new car, but i have more important things to buy at this mom ent

have the kicks built to go just in front of the doors on the floor. i believe that's where they would go anyway. then do a infinity componet set for them. check w/ crutchfield.com and see if they have q-forms(q logic? i can't remember which)for your car. i know they make a crapload of them. then you don't have to mess with your doors.

ps; was i right about the pontiac being the same body style?//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif i just gotta know!!!//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

i'll give it a 8.5

not enuff rust and the bumper is still on!!

u could always cut off the ebrake pedal!!

what ever happened to "horns"?(not for sure if that's what their called) anyway they probably wouldn't do u any good as i believe they are only tweets.(thinking outloud here)

do you have a center console?(between your front seats)

if you do i wonder if you could mount the plates there? or would that be in the way of your gas pedal? other than that i'm fresh out of ideas.....hey ramos,zane,gregj,stones......HELP!//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

i was right about the body style YESS!//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

I could cut holes and put like a 5 1/4 mount inside the doors

But thats a lot of wrk for a pos car

Oh seet hat bumper...its wired on

and you cant see the rust cause i put aluminum tape over it and painted it

I am the car expert

My door handels? Duct Taped on

I dont have a center councole, but the lines run hight enough that the bump in the center only give me a 5" clearncedc

ok, ok, i'll give it a 10!! but only because i don't think you'ra lying about the duck taped handles!!

it seems as cutting the doors are your only option.

good luck!!
