3-way setup

I currently have 4" coaxial speakers in my car and am looking to upgrade. I was thinking maybe something like the CDT Cl-641 3-way components. Right now, I have the coaxial speakers mounted in the dash in the stock location. I'm wondering how the setup would sound if I mounted the tweeter and the midrange in the dash, and the midbass on the bottom of the door pannel near the front. Someone in a local store told me that any components had to be mounted right next to eachother to sound good. Is this true? thanks.

Not necessarily.

If you put the tweeter on the dash and the lower frequencies in the doors it would be fine. Probably give you more of a surround effect, actually.
