3-way components on a 4 channel amp.

Here is what I am trying to accomplish. Focal 165 V3E 3-way comp. running off a JL Audio 300/4 amp. I haven't run 3-way components before so I am not sure which way would work. 6 speakers - 4 channels. What do I do?

Pretty simple...

The Components should have came with a pasive crossover network, ( small box or device) that has a single input per side (Left Channel, Right Channel) and three outputs (Low, Mid,High) for your midbass, midrange and tweeter....

The speakers from your component set will wire to that crossover network and the crossovers will wire too your amps.

Now you have a few options as to how to wire to the amp.

1. Most likely the 4 Ch amp is bridgable into a 2 channel amp, utilizing the whole amp and giving you more power than if youran offa just two channels..

2. run it just off the front 2 channels and get a second set of components (maybe a 2 way or coax set) for the rear and run them off the send set.

3. just don't use the second set...

I'd prefer one of the above... and you can always change it up later...

Well, that was very helpful information. Thank you. I guess the biggest concern I have is that I am affraid of running too much power to the speakers. If I were to bridge the amp that would be putting me at ~150 RMS. These Focal's supposedly run at 80 RMS with a peak near 150. Heh, Focal's arent cheap if you know what I mean.

You should be ok...

Also, you should be able to keep your gain on your amps low too; Which is a good thing... I find that if you really need to crank your gains, you prolly need a bigger amp...

I say try it in the Bridged mode 1st, See if you like it or if it seems like your over driving them, then try it the other way...
