2002 Dodge Caravan Sport Speaker Wiring Harness Questions

I have a 2002 Dodge Caravan and am about to upgrade my speakers. I bought a set of 6x9's to put in the back/middle (speaker above the wheel well and built in arm rest/accessory holder), and also bought a speaker wire harness off Amazon that *says* it fits a 2002 Caravan, but is not at all similar.

What I have is a rounded edge rectangular block that connects to the factory speakers. This has a red retaining clip on the top, and has two sets of three wires connected (three on top portion of harness, and three on the bottom). The connector on the speaker itself has two pins internally that push into the harness.

This is the harness I bought which does not fit my 2002 Caravan Sport: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0007WTEVM/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I am trying to find a picture of the harness I have online but not finding it anywhere. I will be taking a picture of this as soon as I can and will add it to this thread.

My question is, does anyone know the type of harness I'm talking about, and if so, where I might find an adapter that would fit it? I imagine car stereo install shops would have something, or would cut the harness and probably crimp/twist the L/R wires pairs and grounds together. But it would seem like this kind of harness would exist.

I'm also planning to replace the stereo with the Sony MEX XB100BT https://www.amazon.com/Sony-MEX-XB100BT-Hi-Power-Receiver-Bluetooth/dp/B00SCS26KE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1477918851&sr=8-1&keywords=high+power+car+stereo

Another confusing part is, I *think* I have 6x9's in the front top portion of the dash (they might be 5 1/4" round, I haven't taken the top dash apart yet), and also 5x7's in the front doors (these might be 6x9's, I did take the doors apart but didn't measure the speakers). The top dash speakers are connected and working, however the door speakers I believe were never connected and are definitely not producing any sound at the moment.

Last question, if I plan to connect the dash and door speakers together with the XB100BT receiver giving out 40x4 RMS, would this be underpowering the dash/door speakers and potentially blow them, or would this potentially be too much power for stock speakers? I am not sure if I should be looking at buying any specific wattage replacement speakers for the dash/door considering the wattage going to them. Any help is appreciated.

Hmm, I found this thread online just now, I think this may just be the same system I have: 02 G-Caravan Speaker Inf & Install Question - DodgeForum.com

There are some diagrams in the thread. A little confusing but I think I might be up to the task. I really want to get better bass response from the front area, I never have anyone sitting in the back of the van and not looking to throw out any massive sub bass around the neighborhood or anything. But would definitely like to do a build that utilizes all the speakers. I guess I am going to need to tear things apart to see if I have all the speakers referenced in the other thread, I can only confirm that I have the dash, door, and rear speakers above the wheel wells at the moment.

2001-2008 Chrysler/Dodge Caravans are what they call 4th generation. I have a 2006 Grand Caravan. Your speakers on the tip of the dash are almost certainly 5.25". The wiring etc. diagrams are BS. Some wire color codes match the wiring diagrams, others do not. My 2006 has 6x9's in the doors and above the rear wheel wells in the back. 6x9 speakers are a perfect fit. Crutchfield told me the 5.25's atop the dash would not fit for the Alpine SPR-50s I bought, but they do except I had to put about a 1/4 inch spacer under the driver's side 5.25 to raise it up a little higher. Things are kinda crowded up there and the speaker mounts are junk, two point mounts in a hard plastic thing Chrysler put up there. I'm using them right now but dreaming of much better front stage speakers up there.

If your stock unexamined 5.25" speakers up there are not producing any sound right now, it may be as I found in mine because the speakers up there don't actually exist! I found little fiberboard things mounted where the 5.25" speakers should be!! Chrysler just put a fiberboard plate up there and called it gud enuf! Cheap bastards!!

The factory speaker wires are up there to the 5.25"ers, taped down as this pic shows. Just not connected to anything (same wiring harness all models, even the cheap base model.)

I will chat later, gotta get ready for work now!

John Kuthe...

PS: my installer guy and I went to a Best Buy and bought a generic Chrysler adaptor to plug into the Chrysler head unit plug in which gave is lots of correctly color coded wire to splice to the plug-in to my Alpine CDE-153BT. Worked perfectly for me.

PPS: Ignore plug-in adaptors for the speaker wires, there are only two speaker wires to each speaker. Cut off the Chrysler plugs and figure out which of each pairs of speaker wires are the + speaker wire and which is the - speaker wire, and connect them to the appropriate terminal of each new speaker.

PPPS: The front door speakers are wired in parallel with the top of the dash speakers through the stock Chrysler wiring loom. Not ideal, but neither are Chrysler products for audio quality.

Hi johnkuthe, thanks for the detailed reply! I appreciate the information. I am planning on working on mine this weekend and will keep these tips in mind. I will try to add some info on my experience afterwards.

Thanks again!
