Even though it is in fact a menial job, this is a bad practice to get into, even when you guys get settled into a long term career.

• Never allow somebody to talk you into staying, if they do, the message that:
  
• You are only there for the money
  
• You are a d!ck that would bail because of money
  
• You have thought about leaving and that gives the company the upper hand, in two weeks the company may be showing you the door (in essence you have tipped your hand
  

In the 17 years I have been a computer consultant, I can name at least 5 instances where people have told the company they are leaving and the company talked them into staying with a raise, then less than a month later, they were laid off and replaced with somebody cheaper. Ohio is an at will employment state, in other words I agree to work, you agree to pay, if I don't want to work I leave, if you don't want me to work, you get rid of me.

Be careful with some of the work habits you develop now.

that was a dumb move, now you dont have a job untill you find another. You should have found a new job that you kno your hired, and then quit your old one..but hey what ever floats your boat.

You know what really sucks is that when you just up and quit your co-workers are the ones that have to pay for it. It happened to me in almost every retail job, someone would just quit and then I would have to pick up a portion of the leftover slack. It's really big of you for just thinking of yourself, a real hero you are.

You should just tell them. Chances are you were not the first young person to work there and probably wernt the first to leave either. Managers are used to it, young employees leave all the time. They go to school somewhere else, they move or they get a real job. Old Man is right though get into good habits.
