2 JL 12w7's

10+ year member

My friend has a gf that has a new explorer w/ 2 12" JL w7's in a ported box.

Right now she has a MTX 8100d amp that should be putting out 1500 watts continuously split between each sub.

My friend wants to get his gf a new amp, but I said before we do that we need to know the impedance of the subs and how they should be wired up. I dont' really feel like doin all the work for him and figurin out how this should be done so I figured I'd just make a thread here inquiring about it.

this is the amp he's interested in right now but I said before you do anything, we need to figure out how they should be wired up.

Thanks guys

Also: is 1500 watts to each speaker gonna be too much? I wanted to ask what would be the best amp to buy for those 2 subs. I think he wants to keep the price around 400$ or so, ebay will probably have the best deals right?

I don't get it. Why would you want to put the POS on those high end subs...

I've heard those subs sounding good in a SUV with only 500w rms each but 1000w rms each would slam hard.

With the right box 1500w rms should be much of a problem, the w7's are pretty tough from what I have seen.

which one are u callin the POS? the mtx or the alphasonik? i didn't pick out either, my friend is doin all that crap

i'll convince him to get something nice and all the time he's asking me "how bout this.." or "how bout that!" and i'm at the point where i just say.. ya ya ya whatever

i figured you guys could tell him what to get and he'll get it, end of story.

if i already had what he (actually his gf) has, i wouldn't be considering gettin anything new, her system wangs right now as is, aint no point in this continuous upgrade

i guess the madness will continue on until he blows out an eardrum, we'll just have to wait for that day to come

so basically now, hopefully u understand my situation, my friend has a gf that'll pay for anything he tells her to put in her explorer, and he gets kinda crazy with all these options and i'm like the guy he goes to with a lot of his questions.

i saw that the w7's are svc 3 ohm, so he's gonna have to wire them in parallel to achieve a 1.5 ohm load correct? what sub would one of you get if u had plenty of money to spend and u wanted about 1000 watts per sub, or a lil over

btw, this is a strange situation to me, as u can tell by my audio setup, i'm used to bargain hunting and finding the best bang for your buck kinda..

What amp would you get if you could put anything on these 2 JL12w7's? Keep in mind that my friend wants to go kick a lil azz at some competitions too

Well if you want to do really well in comps then 2 PG Tantrum 1200.1's would work well //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

You could also do 1/2 JL 1000/1's .

It is probably going to be hard to find 1 single amp that does much better than what he already has. Yes there will be amps, but it'll be a bit harder to find IMO.

2 12w7 = 1.5 ohm load

good amp is pg tantrum........ it is 2ohm stable but i talked to pg rep and you can run it at 1.5.....

@ 2ohms its 1500 rms (min)...

sooooooooooooooooooooooo that's 750 watts per sub (oh wait isn't that their rms too??)

it sure is //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

thanks for the replies, sounds basically like u all are sayin its dumb to upgrade, which I feel the same way, and I have felt that way from the beginning, but for some reason he thinks they can get noticeably louder

so i'll tell him to go after a couple 1200 watt amps. i'll check out those PG's for him

I appreciate the replies //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
