12's or 15's

I have a 1400.05 watts amp. I currently have two 15 jlw3's and I was wondering would 4 12's hooked up to that amp be louder as far as the human ear. The 15's I have are in a sealed box and I would likely put the 12's in a sealed box. I'm wondering if I got some good 12's if they would be louder. I also was told that my matts 1400.05 would be better if it was put with 3 speakers. I was just wondering if anyone could help me.

How much room do you have? why are the 15's sealed? would you want to get rid of them and get four new woofers, or just build a new ported enclosure for the 15's you already have? what ohm load does the amp need to have to get max power?

see no reason why the amp needs three woofers for max power...as long as the ohm load is met.

id say get a good ported box keep the 15's (more cone surface=more db). By the way what kind of amp is it and what kind of subs are you bumpin?
so a 15" with 1 mm of xsus will be louder than a 12" with 30+mm xsus?

2, 15's = 30

4, 12's = 48

and he has two 15 jlw3's right now in a sealed box

and his amp is a mmats 1400.05

gotta read more man, lol.

i would say keep the 15's and put them in a ported box. that should gain u 3db, if im not mistaken. atleast thats what i was told, lol. ported gains 3db.

Doesn't really work that way...

using the IASCA general woofer chart,

4 12" woofers= 452.16 in^2

2 15" woofers= 353.25 in^2

im not saying the 15's will be louder, im just saying instead of spending money on the 12's, just build a nice ported box for the 15's and that should only cost like $100 tops.

then u save yourself ALOT of money and ull gain some db from the ported box:)

I think it all depends on how low you want ur subs to hit. a guy at work had four fifteens and no matter what bass song he had they wouldnt bottom out. Id go with fifteens. Maybe a ported box. or maybe just another sealed box bigger than the others with polyfil in them.

I think I'm going to get some other 1 5's and build two boxes a ported and a sealed for two l7's and see the difference. The problem around my area is that there aren't too many cars that you can compare too.
