120V setup like show cars

I was wondering how hard it is to "plug" your cars electrical/charging system into a 120V outlet. Iv seen that setup on showcars that their builders use so they can keep the stereo bumping while the car is off without having to worry that they system will crap out. What sort of modifications need to be made. Obviously a 120V system cant directly be connected to a car's 12V one.

You would probably have to use some type of transformer. With the input voltage being 120V and the output being 12V volts. Shouldn't take to much work, and I bet they probably do sell them somewhere.

well you could use a linear power supply with a big transformer and rectifiers and regulators or you can go for the switching route, in any case heres what you would be looking for

I own a

SS-25M

SS-30M

and a RS-70A

all are very nice and i use them for HAM radio if anyone was wondering.

Cascade Audio makes on just for that purpose. To do it right you will need more amperage from the power supply than the system will consume. It isn't going to be cheap and it will probably take more than one supply. Car audio shops use them to power their demo boards, so you might be able to find a shop remodeling and replacing theirs and pick one up used.
