    Subwoofer Box Question

I used a Windows program for the box calculations. I could have used multiple smaller ports but they would’ve had to be much longer. It calculated for the 34hz tune 22 square inches of port space if I remember right. 5” port was right on the spot just can’t find any port kits long enough and can’t find 5” pvc at any store I’m near. With it being a trunk box the port noise is less audible to me in the cab of the car. I still want it minimal and I’ll have enough port area with the slot port I just heard that round ports have least port noise. With the larger box higher tune I know the larger sqft of the box will increase movement and therefore output of the box. With a 40hz tune or high tune in general I’d get too much of an output spike and it would likely drown out my front components. I don’t think it would sound bad necessarily I just don’t want so much output that I sacrifice a lot of my SQ or system balance. And with subs I mean a cheap >$100 sub would definitely sound worse the two are comparable in price point though and seem to me to sound very very similar with my current system.

    Subwoofer Box Question

The SA-10 and the EVL in my opinion sound no different. At least to the ear they aren’t. I currently have the Skar in the same box so it’s constricted a little on box volume but I don’t hear any audible SQ difference. Would have definitely kept the sundown just didn’t know the real problem and thought I had borked the coil. That’s why I’m asking though I know with the bigger box and higher tune that the skar wouldn’t sound as good. I think I’m going to build a slot ported box tuned at 34hz. Was going to do a round port but need a 5” port to get the right amount of port area and the ones you buy aren’t long enough and I can’t find 5” pvc anywhere. Not to worried about port noise as it’s a trunk box though and it should still be pretty minimal.

    Subwoofer Box Question

I know I wasn't. Have skar in the sundown box at the moment and it still sounds great to me. The sundown wasn't blown i just had a borked ground connection on my line output connection and ordered the new sub before I knew that was the problem

    Subwoofer Box Question

Long story short I thought the sundown was blown when it was actually a bad connection from the line converter and the Skar was rated for 1000 watts vs 600 for the sundown and didn't want to risk blowing another sub

    Subwoofer Box Question

I know there is probably 1000 threads about this on here but I haven't been able to find a clear answer to what I need. I've recently bought a Skar Audio EVL-10 to replace my Sundown SA10 and need to build a new box. The question I have is for the box tuning. Skar recommends 40Hz. My last box was tuned to 32Hz. So does a higher tuning lead to louder (and lower quality) sound above and at the tune frequency? And the lower the tune the quieter but lower it'll play and better it will sound?

    2 sundown SA-10 or 1 x12?

Okay I am probably going to do the dual 10’s. What if I were to up wattage to 1500 rms. My current alternator is 145 amps. Would the votage drop hurt sound enough to make a bigger system sound worse than the smaller setup?

    2 sundown SA-10 or 1 x12?

I’m having to change my system up because one of my subs died. For an SPL setup should I go with a pair of Sundown SA-10s or one sundown x12? Either way I’ll be powering at 1100 watts rms since I don’t want to put too much excessive power on my alternator and both setups will be rated at 1500. Was wondering which would be best for loud bass and feel in my car.

Help! Sub not acting right. Is it blown?

I’m thinking that’s what happened. From being overpowered and having it for few years I think the coil finally got too hot and there’s a bubble in it now. Going to just recone it and hope that fixes the problem

Help! Sub not acting right. Is it blown?

Took it’s ps4 away but it’s still throwing a fit. Seriously though just got out of box. Was a little dusty in the box but not bad. Pushed cone down and there was no rubbing. Tensel leads, spider, terminals and coil from what I can see are all good. Not really sure why it’s doing this. Don’t think it’s the amp because of the way it almost seems to seize up and quit looking. Added some photos if those might help.

Help! Sub not acting right. Is it blown?

Checked ohm load this morning. Haven’t pulled amp just checked the leads coming from sub and it measured right out at 1ohm.

Help! Sub not acting right. Is it blown?

Also will add that it plays fine for first 5 to 10 minutes of listening before this happens and only does it at high volume. Once at medium to low volume it plays with no distortion

Help! Sub not acting right. Is it blown?

Okay so I’ve had this Sundown Audio SA-10 v2 in my car for about 1-2 years. It’s been running at 1000 watts rms which is 250 over spec however everything I read up on said these subs could take way more than that. Anyways here in the past few days the sub had been cutting out making very little autible noise in the cab of my car. However it’s still moving and I’ve attached a video of what sound it makes. Thought Maybe tinsel slap or something of the sort? Don’t think it’s overpower and topping out because I’ve ran it exactly like this since I’ve had it. Could it be blown? I’m going to test impedance tomorrow and will update just looking for a quick response If anyone knows what this is. 4D4E29B8-1524-44E0-A390-13CCCD33BA21.MOV
