Not super happy with JL 12w3.. Looking for another 12

Well, I ended up purchasing a SWR-12D4, I'm running 2ohms resistance to get 500 watts to it. instead of the 4ohm, 300 watts with the JL. Seems to have a little bit better punch than the JL did. I sold the JL to a friend who wanted it, he is happy with it.

I don't plan on changing my components any time soon. My box was made from CustomBoxMan (or something like that) on eBay.. paid around $120 for it. It's a good box.

reporting back on this, the conclusion I came up with was the rux-knob was causing the grinding noise. Replacing the wire didn't help, but replacing the knob itself did. The sub no longer makes a grinding noise with the new knob.

please help, sub not getting power

The problem was the head unit. I think the positive wire touched the RCA wires and jacked up the terminals. Replaced the HU and all is well again.

    Is my amp toast?

Just wanted to give a final report. Everything is in good working order again after getting a new HU.

    where to buy wiring kits?

There is already a dash kit in my truck for a single DIN unit I was hoping to reuse it. As far as the harness, there is already one present from the existing HU harness to the OEM plug, so do I just splice the connector wires that come with the HU to the adapter harness? Or are there specific harnesses for specific HUs?

Same here. I wanted a similar interface to my current HU. Thanks!

    where to buy wiring kits?

Thanks. It hasn't come in yet, so I haven't had the chance to see if the wiring process will be straightforward. Do I just remove the existing spliced wires and splice in the new harness to the existing wires?

    where to buy wiring kits?

I currently have a DEH-P600UB.. old school Premier HU I've had since high school. Ordered a new DEH-X9500BHS and I'm pretty sure the connector on the back is not the same as my old HU. I was wondering where I could get a wiring kit for the new HU.. or how to do it. This is my first time replacing a HU on my own. I have a 2004 Tacoma. Or can I use my current wiring kit and splice all the wires together?

please help, sub not getting power

Yes, but not for a subwoofer. Only for speakers. Tried plugging them into other spots but it didn't work either.

Okay so after testing my amp and sub via headphone jack to RCA, seems to work fine. Replaced RCA cables with no success. I think the power wire touching said cable may have fried my HU subwoofer output terminals. So I guess I'll be getting a new HU. Live and learn! I will try to report back so the thread doesn't come to a dead end... hate that when I'm searching similar topics. More than likely the HU is the culprit.

Okay. Well, I guess I'll go ahead and splurge on another HU.. is a Pioneer DEH-X9500BHS a good choice? I want something similar to my current HU

    Is my amp toast?

Okay so here's the conclusion I came up with... let me know if this is a possible scenario. After hooking my phone up to the amp via RCA/3.5mm and playing a 50Hz test tone, my sub was getting a healthy amount of wattage. So I figured the RCA cables going to the HU were the problem. Replaced them with some good ones I found at Radioshack... still no success. My friend believes the HU is the problem. When I had the truck taken apart, the cords were lying on the ground. The power wire touched another wire and caused an electrical spark... it only happened for a split second. I checked my fuses behind the HU and at the battery but they were still good. My friend thinks that the power wire may have touched an RCA wire(s) and jacked up the subwoofer output RCA terminal(s). Is that a possibility? If so, a new HU is in order..

    Is my amp toast?

I didn't change any settings on my amp or HU and it's just not doing anything. Went to an audio shop today... their solution? Turn the bass boost and loudness up. Wow, thanks for that $35 bit of advice. -_- I'm having a friend check it out this afternoon. I did not mess with the ground contact on the chassis, it has worked flawlessly for almost a year now. When I check the AC voltage at the amp's speaker terminals on a normal rap song, it's very low. Very, very low. Which would make sense, since the sub acts like it has about 10 watts going to it. But before, it would thump. So I'm starting to think it might be my amp :/ But I don't know how it happened! Thunder, What readings should I be getting? Are you talking about touching the contacts onto the speaker terminals at the amp?
