  1. Hey folks, I've been out of the game for a while but looking to buy some new equipment for my new jeep wrangler. The stock speakers are garbage, obviously. I have an alpine type r 12" on an Orion d1200 amp (ported box) that I've been very happy with over the years. I would like to buy new 6.5 components for the front, 6.5 coaxials for the back, and a 4 channel amp to power them. I'd like to buy everything I need (4 speakers, amp, amp kits for subwoofer amp and speaker amp) and then pay a local installer that I trust to install it all. I'm planning on running the stock head unit if possible. Ideally I'd like to spend $500 but I'd be willing to stretch to $600 once everything is said and done. I've initially looked at alpine type s speakers but I don't know if they are the best bang for buck. I know nothing about good budget 4 channel amps. Any input would be appreciated.

Alpine Type R 12" or JL 12W3 for a sealed enclosure

I have a type r in a ported box and I listen to country, rock, etc. with no problems. They really love a ported box, no real reason to seal it. If you want a sealed sub check out Fi

    Question on the type R's

I built a box for my type r (1222d). I used 2 inch screws and titebond wood glue. I think I was able to do it with only 2 bar clamps and my box is very solid. As for the hole for the subwoofer, I used a jigsaw and cut it slightly smaller than what the sub called for, then used a power sander to smooth it out and make it just large enough for the sub. I'm so glad I built my own cause it was fun, plus I know the quality is wayyy better than prefab or an overpriced custom box at a shop.

Needs a new sub for my hatchback

+1 I have been running my type r (12") in 2 cubes @ 34hz for about a year and a half at 600w RMS and it is still pounding hard

    Box build for: Ali1

that is great work. about what ballpark did you charge him for that?
  8. So I mean are the back seats still "sittable"? It looks like the box is pushing the seat up a little bit

yeah they need to come up with a new name for them because pretty much every car has them except for lambo's. maybe "vertical swinging doors"
