I grew up in Kaslo BC.... I know where you are at man. I would stick with that W7. Definitely DO NOT use multiple different size subs. Just go with the one that has the most SD ( Cone Area ). Just so happens that W7 is a pretty good setup. People here will bash JL and yes they are pricey, but their is a ton of RD&D that goes into developing product that people don't consider when buying. Developing truly great product takes time and money-- both are not cheap. You also get solid service after the sale. There are some smaller boutique brands here that do a good job as well. Ask Jacob at Sundown how much time and money he spends developing a product as well as service after the sale . He has done an incredible job, but I am sure he has busted his *** and it has not been easy. Bigger companies need a better ROI. It's easy to talk alot of **** when you are young and don't have full comprehension of what running a successful business takes. Don't worry about your JL product... run what you already have. If you ever get access to better shop tools you might try building a custom box and then you can compare. A generic one spec fits all type box is generally pretty good for the masses, but not always as good as it could be.

This was my point.... Those new Type R 8's are very MUSICAL and are great. Very low inductance and nice linear stroke. After the success Alpine had with the re-engineered 8's they upgraded the SWS line. For the money and the power available-- They are a solid choice. I didn't care for the older sub offerings from Alpine either. Again Jim and crew came up with a great 8 and the reworked SWS line-- for the money and lower amp power available are great. There are always variables in play that we forget and leave out when making suggestions. For what the kid was working with I stand by my recommendation. Being older I tend to forget that not everybody listens to music. I watch all the Dr. Subwoofer videos etc etc and after I get done laughing I can only remind myself everybody has different goals / needs.

So a traditional port provides no resistance? When you say that it will not perform to the same degree-- How much of a difference is there? Is it night and day? Some people may like surrendering most of the extra space for a TX sized box, but I gotta think at the end of the day the smaller box and negligible difference in output would be a far greater win ( unless actually competing ).Everybodys priorities may be different, but over time I have come to realize that anyone can achieve bass in a car ( cabin gain / transfer function ). Too many people focus all their energy on such a small frequency range ( If that's all you care about... Cool ). The best systems I have hear have strong midbass and great imaging.
