Ok, so I've been out of the game for about 6 years. Last I remember, 12v lithium batteries were gaining popularity for car audio.

I'm looking at a 100Ah lithium battery or 200Ah AGM. They're about the same price. The AGM is obviously bigger and will be much heavier. Weight is a little bit of a factor for me. The car isn't exactly fast to begin with, haha.

I assume because the Lithium battery I'm looking at is made for RV's and solar setups that it will be ok for Iowa winters. Any idea what the difference in life span would be?

Here are links to both I'm trying to decide between:
Lithium: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08FMTRYPT/?tag=caraudiocom-20
AGM: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075RGX1WR/?tag=caraudiocom-20

I still have my 07 Silverado, but I also recently bought a 97 Civic coup. I'm planning a "small" build for the car. Skar ZVX-12 run off a Taramps HD 3k. JS 240 or 300 amp alt.

Lithium battery advertised as "RV" is meant to like run lights and a small fan overnight while your camping or similar. Likely it will not have high charge or discharge rating.

If you're looking to get proper lithium you need to get into some LTO "Lithium Titanate Oxide" cells. They have very good cold weather performance as well.

Yeah, they list "max continuous discharge current" as 100A and max discharge as 300A for 5 seconds.
Didn't see that earlier. Not ideal for car audio then.

Like these lithium batteries?

Edit:
Never mind, the charge current for these is 5A and discharge is 30A

Sup feller.

For an HD3k I would just run AGM though.

For that price, I will stick with an AGM, haha.

Didn't you used to have a Taramps HD 8k?

I was originally going to get one of those, but the new ones are expensive. Any other good "budget" amps that are new?

Yeah I have had an HD8k before. The MD, Bass, and Smart lines are much better amps than the old HD lines.

Are you looking for around a 3k amp?

Oh, I thought everyone loved the HD 8k's.

Somewhere around 3k. Probably around $200. Wouldn't be opposed to a larger amp for a little extra money if there are some great new ones I haven't heard of.

The HDs were great at the time. Technology has advanced and the new Taramps lines are better built.

For $200 I think your only option is the Taramps MD3000.

It's been a while so I'm trying to remember.

MD was rated at 12.6 volts and 40hz. HD at 100hz
MD isn't as sensitive to impedance or voltage as the HD line was.
MD has a flatter frequency response.
MD has better protection

I see they also have a "bass 3k" now too. I wonder what that's about.

Go with lithium. Only about 12 pounds and equals about 3 AGM's.

That's not even a bad price for those cells these days what with demand for them plus shipping rate increases.

The difference is, those YingLong cells are good for 5C charge and 10C discharge, or on 40AH bank 200A charge and 400A discharge. LTO are also meant to last 20 years and that 40AH bank would be the size of a 6 pack of 16oz cans and weigh in at about 15 pounds. They can be had for a bit less money than the XS Power branded ones if you care to shop around and/or DIY bus bars.

That all said, I think most folks are under-sizing their banks of those and not really looking at the long term value of keeping them 5C discharge max and planning to own them for 20 years. Dollar for dollar, even at XS Power branded price these will outperform AMG by every measure and outlast them by multiples.

Notable new amps right now is Sundown (and a handful of other brands) selling Chinese made Soundigital knockoffs. They're about what you expect as far as sound, performance, and build quality, but Sundown flavor comes with Sundown warranty and all of them are priced at around Taramps price per watt. Well worth considering. In the 3K department specifically I think Taramps SMART3 would be tough to beat in bang for buck.

14.6 is max charge for headway. 3.65 volts per cell. There should not be any voltage drop from your alternator wiring to battery so 14.8 is too high.
