Currently have 2001 Subaru Impreza Wrx with JVC KWR930BT (50x4 output) Head unit and sound deadening in the front doors.
I have never modified anything audio wise before but recently have been doing a bunch of research and getting interested in car audio stuff. I still with a few questions though.
My goal is to have great sound quality and with good bass. Mainly listen to Rock, R&B and a little bit of Rap if that helps.
Im planning to run stock rear speakers using the aftermarket head unit. Then power some aftermarket front component speakers and a Sub using a 3 channel AMP.
Where I need help is what output speakers, sub and amp to get. Im thinking of a setup like front component speakers 50W RMS each (100 for both) and 150W RMS Sub with a 400W Amp.
Would this be excessive or not enough for my needs or should I have different ratio of Sub to Speaker output or bigger/smaller AMP.
Lmk thoughts and any help would be great.

Edit: Will likely upgrade the head unit to a Pioneer of some sort.

Didnt put budget because i live in New Zealand because different prices for everything and the conversion rate etc. I got my setup sorted now tho (i talked to some shops).

Kenwood KMM-BT304 Head unit
Infinity Ref6030cs component speakers
Fusion EN-AM60040 amp
Soundstream SST-12 Sub with Sub box & Grill
Cabling to suit

Quoted me $850nzd or $550 usd for the lot and will likley pick it all up soon. They gave me good prices as well as very good price for the amp as it was discontinued version.
I can install myself so that saves $$

no idea what brands they have over there, id stick with...

Alpine
Arc
Dynaudio
Hertz
Image Dynamics
JL

I would change out the headunit or add a DSP so you can have active crossovers.

Pick up some raw drivers and tweeters from Madisound or Parts express.

A 4 channel like a ppi 900x4 or similar.

Then a Dayton HO 12 on a decent 1k amp.

Or a cheaper less "SQ" option would be get some Image Dynamics 6.5" components, a NVX JAD900.5, and two Blaupunkt 8" subwoofers.

Maybe I should modify my needs. I need to be able to make it loud without sounding trash. My current setup I cant turn it up much before it just turns to crap. I also want some bass. I dont need insane SQ. Ill give a review of the setup I end up getting (even though it will mean nothing to anyone as slo_ride says im pretty new to it all).

I would spend the money on a good headunit, mids, tweeters, and 4 channel for now. Then later on you can add a subwoofer and amp for it as you get the money.

Better than having to start all over again when you realize your $500 full system isn't what you were expecting and have to start over again.

But hey you might love what you had picked out. Everyone has a different opinion on what is worth the money on here.

We all started somewhere. Hell when I was 16 I had eight blaring Blaupunkt 6x9s and two home audio fifteens.

So - I guess the current trend is to spend money on the fringe details (DSP's and tuning capability) instead of getting the foundation in place. You can build a perfectly good sounding set up with a cheap head unit, good speakers and plenty of power.

I think your HU's fine and your infinity's are fine, but i've always had doubts about Fusion. Their website lists that amp as a mono with a 30A fuse. Retail sites list it as a 4 ch (which it clearly is) with a pair of 25A fuses. If that's the best you can do with your budget in your area then it's what you have to do 😕

That sub -- I would think you can do better -- even if it's just 10 or 20% more. That's among the lowest quality subs on the market, and enclosure specs are hard/impossible to find (not that a perfect box would make much difference). I THINK it's what would be called the XStream series in this part of the world. The specs I could find aren't good. 5mm xmax for starters -- which is nothing to work with in trying to produce low freqency music.

I had what jvc listed as their best single din in 2016 when I got my landcruiser (4v preouts and all) and my output ******...Checked everything else then finally Swapped with a way more user friendly pioneer and it was night and day difference.

Popwar homie makes good sense. Grab a better four channel. Also you could grab that Component set now and benefit from the 2ohm power from and better amp then bridge the rear channels of your amp to a sub and if the sound is not good or bass not enough run active and/or separate monoblock sub amp later.
