I saw the writing on the wall too. I left the industry, professionally, in the early 2000's when I became a Firefighter.

I remember those ads. I was a rep for Alpine at the time. I got my start in 12V as an installer for Tweeter in the '80's when they were a small 8 store chain in New England. I was making what union tradesmen were making to 'sling radios'. Margins were at 50%, and higher, and the work we did...

Advice on Parallel Battery Charging Options

I used a battery isolator when I built a system with a second battery. It was clean, simple, and kept the batteries from 'fighting' each other. Like a boat, one battery is the 'house' battery for the car, and the second is for the audio system.

    Featured New Alpine documentary

I worked for Alpine from the mid '90's to the early '00's. We were all taught the company's history. It was a great company to work for, and YES, we "ate, slept, and crapped" /////ALPINE. I saw the cassette deck with the bullet hole in it. It was brought to Alpine's US office for an...

    Best Recording Car Cameras???

I have an Alpine DVR-C320R in my truck. It's a good camera. It installed easily and integrated with my ILX-507. Its settings are accessed through the 507. It has night vision and parked mode.

Featured Remember when HU were so rad

Very much so. I go back to shaft/knob cassette decks, but my favorites were Alpine headunits of the late '80s/ early '90s: I also worked for Alpine from the mid '90s to early 00's. ... It was a fun time to be in 12V.

My favorite HU brand is Alpine. I was lucky enough to work for them in the '90s through early '2Ks. I still use them.

    Featured Do you remember Nakamichi

Sure do. I installed more than my share of TD700s, a few TD1200s, lots of EC200's and PA300's. Their plate speaker model number escapes me, but I installed a lot in the old SL Mercedes back in the '80s.

    uggg ,Time alignment

Keep your measurements in cm. It's easier. It doesn't make a difference whether the speakers are passively/actively crossed over. I always measured from the midrange when using component speakers. Try it from your tweeters if you're not happy with how it sounds by midrange T/C. Sorry for...

    uggg ,Time alignment

Here's the way I've always calculated time correction: On a piece of paper, measure the distance from your listening position to each speaker, LF, RF, LR, RR, etc. The furthest distance has 0 time correction. Subtract all other speaker distances from the furthest. Add each of those results to...

    Featured Old school Alpine Problem

Do the tuners work OK? Will the unit load/unload a CD? My first guess is the microswitch that tells the unit there's a disc inside isn't working right. The RR & RBs tell me they're not US market radios, though I don't see that making a difference. I'd give Alpine a call/email. I'm not sure...
