At the end of the year, you have about $313.00

Now, lets say the market tanked in month 6, then went back to normal in month 7. At the end of the year, you have $259.37. You've lost 17+% of what should be your final number.

Sorry, no mutual fund, 401k, 403b, IRA, etc, simply adds money back into your account if the market recovers. That's not how it works.

My 401k and 403b both "added" money back into my account when the market recovered, just like they "subtracted" money from account when the market dipped.

You're analysis is very interesting since it's not all how the stock market works. If you want a steady month to month return on your investment, then you shouldn't invest in the stock market which can be up 5% this month, up 1% the next month and down 3% the following month. Buy US treasury or AAA Corporate bonds if you want guaranteed returns, with no down months. You're analysis of the market going up 10% a month each and every month is seriously flawed, but it does make the Orange Guy look bad.

As for my 10% explanation, it was a simplified way to show how a (what some people describe as a "nothing") drop in your rate of return for a short time can have a major impact in the big picture. It was simply pulled from the blue for easy math, but I just found ou tthat the S&P actually has historically averaged 11% per year over the past 20 years.

Yes, the market CAN move up and down naturally, even driven by things like natuarl disasters, pandemics, etc.
But HOW can if possibly be considered a good thing when the idiocy of a an idiot president directly causes it?
