Taramps Bass 3k repair

So I ran across a Taramps Bass 3k used on egay for cheap and bought it to either have a spare amplifier or to flip it to one of my friends. Amp came in it is totally dead. No power lights, protection lights, nothing. eBay seller gave me my money back and told me to keep it. So I now have a free dead amplifier. Before I toss this thing, does anyone have a clue what could be wrong with it? I don’t see anything obvious. It seems to be in almost pristine condition like it was bought, connected, found to be dead and returned to the store. Some of the plastic wrap was still in the box and the plastic is still on the logo.

I honestly cant see anything. May have to take a pick and tug and pry to see if something is loose from the board. Possibility the transformer or power supply blown??By reverse polarity. Normally you will see that but at times you will not see any burn marks.

Whatever happened to it, either it never worked or it blew quick. No burn marks, no burnt smell.

Don’t toss it, I’m guessing that was more of a joke, but resell on ebay for parts / repair or wherever. I use to buy blown amps to fix / resell, and hate to see some get tossed out (and occasionally they do). I stopped buying them as blown amps go for so much money it isn’t worth it 98% of the time, it was tough to turn a profit after buying an amp, and then parts for it, and of course labor time. I only say this as you can probably get some decent money for it as it sits. I’d make an offer, but it will be out of my price range, I already know.

If you want to try to repair it, your best chance is to post over at: https://www.diyaudio.com/community/forums/car-audio.38/ and follow along with any help you get. Going to need a digital multimeter.

Note that isn’t diyma, totally different site, and the car audio section there is mainly car amplifier repair help.

Thanks for the responses. I threw it up on eBay as parts only and it sold in less than 3 hours. $70 profit on a free amplifier. I hope they can fix it and enjoy it.

Sometimes that’s the best choice, just sell it before you make it worse.

I got a bargain on a non-working JL Audio 1000/1 back when the original version were really expensive, and I was fairly new to amp repair. One look inside I knew that was out of my realm of repair skill at that moment, so I listed it back on ebay. Looked brand new, with the box and all, just no output, but back then the smarter choice was to not mess with it and risk damaging it, I still just about doubled my money on it, so wasn’t a big deal.

I seen the amp after you posted it on ebay, debated at the $100, but I have no experience with the amps with micro controllers, so decided against it.

Yeah. If it had something clearly burnt, I would probably have tried replacing it. I have done those type of repairs before. But diagnosing this style of amplifier is beyond my knowledge.
I listed it on eBay for $100 or best offer. Someone made me a offer and I took it.

I was tempted to send an offer, but felt the 100 was fair for it since it was like new still. You still did good on it though.
