This is absurd.. 4k-12k in your living room? 400w plate amp on a single sub in a horn will do damage. I cannot imagine that. I would probably tune even lower that 25hz if you're just going with a ported box.

Now the addiction begins. Folding your seats around and all that to squeeze out every tenth. Have to checked to see where your car peaks? With a sealed box..
There is a lot of hip hop/rap that digs easily into the 30's nowadays. I would just stick with 35. I don't really see the point in tuning any lower unless you're like me and listen to nothing but c&s and slowed music that has consistent mid 20hz notes. So if you decide to play this type of...
That is the general rule that people use. Like the x inches per cube. But if your making a box for a certain driver, I don't see the point if you're gonna cut corners and muff up one of the biggest factors of the box. If that were the case, a simple 12" Walmart sub would be just fine in the same...
Box size has nothing to do with port area. I'm going to start chopping my thumbs off. Lol. Port area is more so determined by the type of box it is (ported, bandpass, etc), the cone area of the sub, desired tuning frequency and the subs excursion.
If you'd like to go with the RE route, check out the MX series. My buddy has two in a 4th blow thru and they get down on his DC 3.5k. He does 47's at 38hz and still breaks 42's at 24hz. Lightweight, 4" coil, lots of suspension, neo. Stout subs for sure.
As for the newer RE xxx, it's impressive, but it gives up too much to get that crazy excursion (that youll never see) and low fs. Cooling being a huge one. And they want massive boxes.
