JL 1000/1 VS. Alpine PDX 1.1000

I don't know what you term" hot" but JL's slash amps are rated as one of the most thermally efficient in the market. I've owned them for 5+ years and never had more than warm to the touch after hours of playing. Both are great amps. The main difference between the two if I'm not mistaken...

    what's up with image dynamics?

ID is a product I've always wanted to toy with. While personally never owning them, I've had the pleasure of listening to their products in show rooms and in vehicles and was very pleased with the results. I hold up them up very close to my personal favorite JL. I'm pleased to see the company...

What is Your Definition of a SQ Sub?

    Why thank ya

What is Your Definition of a SQ Sub?

Negative. Here's where you can see how perfection is not based on what perfect is to you: 1.) 2+2=4. It doesn't matter what you or anyone thinks, 2+2 will always equal 4. It's numbers. It's quantitative fact. 2.) A sound wave has a physical form. The wave length has concrete measurable numbers...

What is Your Definition of a SQ Sub?

Correct, and therefore you are describing sound preference, not sound quality.

What is Your Definition of a SQ Sub?

It's not like that. Pure sound is just that, pure. It is the sound wave and nothing else, mainly no distortion. All Woofers have some level of Distortion. Some also"bloom" or "color" bass. In other words, when the coord or tone is played, you can clearly tell that signal is not being soley...

What is Your Definition of a SQ Sub?

It is not subjective. It is a concrete parameter that can be measured, see BL performance. The more linear a cone remains with the lest ammount of lateral movement through out all types of response (long, short, hard, soft, etc) the less distortion and erronous sound is produced and the more...

What is Your Definition of a SQ Sub?

Bingo. The more accurate the subwoofer produces the signal, with the least ammount of distortion, blooming and coloration added.

whats a good SQ sub to pick?

SBrands/subs specializing or geared more towards SQ: JL Morel Hertz Fi Q ID SSA ICON So are some of the best ones right off of the top of my head. Hard to go wrong with any one from that list.

    Like to get your thoughts

1000/1 may be too much for W3's. Watch your settings and volume. W6's yes, and you'll get better SQ. IDQ's would be a great choice as well. Don't have much experience with the other two you mentioned.

It's very hard to go wrong with Morel, Hertz or ID. Flip a coin twice. All very good speakers.

    12w3v2 What Amp?

I ran two 12W3v2's off of a 500/1 in an S-10 blazer a few years ago. Each sub was in a genaric ported box. Sounded great, and pounded. Metered it once at a small competiton and hit 144, mic on the front passanger floor board. Didn't build it for SPL, but hit a nice mark nonetheless. Any true...

    K I'm bored of my 13w6v2 already...

Go with JL spec. The specs for their boxes maximize what their subs are intended to do. If you want to go lower, then a sub designed to be better at lower frequencies may be what you want. As others have said, try ported. If you like the SQ from the W6, ported will increase the out put. If it...

    K I'm bored of my 13w6v2 already...

Correct, but with dual square ports on the sides, I have the added room needed to accomodate them. With the single slot port, there was no room to have the slot above or below the 13" sub, and I didn't want just one slot to one side. Looks asymetrical. So We split it and went with two ports, one...

    K I'm bored of my 13w6v2 already...

I have a 13W6v2 in a custom ported enclosure built to JL spec running off of a 500/1. It sounds great, and is plenty loud (for my tastes.) I haven't metered it, but based off of another Set-up I had, I'd say it's easily in the 120's. For one SQ sub on 500 watts, that's pretty **** good to me...
