    What size fuse?

I am still pretty new to car audio and I was wondering If someone could help me choose the right fuse sizes. I am going to run a ppi pcx-480 at 80x4 4ohm rated at 12v and a ppi pcx-2400 at 400x2 4ohm rated at 12v. What size do i need for the main fuse near the battery and what sizes do i need for the distribution block?

    Re: What size fuse?

just add the fuses on the actual amps themselves all together (example: 2x30=60, + 3x25=75. 75+60= 135. 135= fuse by battery is going to have to be between 140-150. one amplifier=60amp current draw=60amp fuse in distro for that amp, 2nd amplifier=75amp current draw=put 75amp fuse in the distro for that amp.) hope this clears things up.)

thats the formula you use for determining the proper gauge of wire to run.

to fuse the wire correctly you find the maxium that a wire can carry and then lower that a bit and you have the right fusing chart.

check here http://www.the12volt.com/info/recwirsz.asp to figure out what you need to fuse your wire at.

    Re: What size fuse?

i know that the wire can prolly hold more, i just like to replace 1 main fuse rather than 5 or 6 fuses on the amp(s)

    Re: What size fuse?

what would you rather replace? a 300 amp.. or a 4000 car? fuse the wire to just under its maximum capacity. If you run 4awg.. anywhere from 100-150A would be fine.

    Re: What size fuse?

yeah john is right, you also have to keep in mind fuses can handle a fair amount of time when they are WELL over their rating, I want to say they can go 5minutes with 200% of their rating, so theres one reason why you need to go lower than the max. current of the wire, other than the obvious reason.
