How can I determine which wire is positive or negative without tracing the wires back to the HU(too much work...)? The wire look exacting the same with no labels or colours on them to differentiate them......can you help???

get a volt meter or a test light and connect to ground. Then with the other lead test each wire untill you get a reading or signal. Then after you have found the positive reverse what you did. connect to the positive and search for a ground untill you have got a reading or a signal.

Assuming you're talking about speaker wires, there's usually a stripe on the positive one. Or the speaker terminal is larger. There's gotta be some way for the factory to identify which was which.

If it's a wire you installed yourself, and you didn't use different colors... you deserve a slap.
