Icon32 Who has installed on a 1998 - 2001 Volkswagen Passat? I would like to hear from you

    Hey Everyone,

I'm sure that there is an excellent installer on this board who has worked on a 1998-2001 Volkswagen Passat before . . . can you let me know who you are?

I would like some information on some of the following:

    - How to build channels in the door (because the grille supposedly doesn't line up with the speaker hole). Maybe someone still has their measurements/drawings??

    - Maximum mounting depth in the rear doors

    - Trying to fit Focal Utopia 165Ws in the front may give me an issue with the tweeter size being larger than stock?

    - Any other tips/tricks you can offer

    THANKS!!
    Bryan

    Hehehe :P That's a good tip

I am not an installer, but I thought I could save on some installation costs if someone has already done some measurements and fit speakers to this car before.

I was in a Focal dealership, and he showed me these MDF channels that he made for the doors of a Jetta, and if I bought the Focals off of him (which I didn't because I ended up buyng used instead) then he would have provided me with these plans. I'm wondering if anyone else has done this before and still has their plans?

    Thanks,
    Bryan

have you tried asking at www.vwvortex.com in the forums (car audio forum specifically)? There are at least a few intensive passat installs their. You may want to IM the owners or search there.

just trace the stock speaker mounts on a pice of paper, cut it out, and trace it onto MDF. jigsaw it up, then drill some holes. easy stuff=

Good idea with checking on the Vortex . . . I am always on PassatWorld.com, but noone there seems to want to write up about their installs I rarely go to the Vortex (generally, it is not really oriented towards the Passat) but I guess in thsi case it may be helpful

Req, I need a way to make an angled channel so that goes on an angle from the grille on the doorskin to the speaker mount in the door. I don't think that tracing will help me here. I can't remember exactly what the Focal dealer did to make this channel, but I remember that it involved a bit of work and fiddling around. . .

    Regards,
    Bryan

My ex drove an '01 Jetta, and I installed a basic system in my buddy's '98 Jetta here at Tech, so I know a thing or two about VW's...

I hate working on them, especially coming from my van So little room...
