    External Alternator Regulator...

Well, I currently have a 200 amp Mean Green High Output alternator. It uses my truck's stock electronics for charging voltage...which are RATHER old. For some reason, I'm not getting anywhere near 14.4v @ Idle or a little rev-d up. I need to know if I can implement and external regulator with this alternator to bump the voltage to up around 14.4-14.5

If I'm able to do this, anyone know where I can get one?!? Thanks!

If you're getting 12 volts at the alt. you have big a problem. Did you measure it?! And the meter read 12.0 volts?? If so Call the maker and ask him about it. Sounds like a defective alt.

    Re: External Alternator Regulator...

Could be the internal regulator in the alt is bad. If your only getting 12 at the alt positive terminal, something might be wrong with it. Call them up and see what its supposed to read.

The fact that you said it fluctuates is almost a sure sign of a bad pully or a bad regulator. The bearing could also be bad.

    Re: External Alternator Regulator...

Doesn't vlustuate, I'm getting 12.1v at the alternator lead @ idle...as well as at the battery lead @ idle. I'm not sure what the problem is. I don't think it has an internal regulator, becuase when speaking with the manufacturer months back they said it uses the stock computer or electronics system to determine voltage. This alternator is brand new, had a problem with pulley alignment on the last one...and recieved a new one under warranty!

I'm trying to get in contact with them. Thanks

I know, but did you see what I'm getting!??!?! 12.1v is REDICULOUS...*if possible* I'd like to use an external regulator to acheive 14.5v

    Re: External Alternator Regulator...

what exactly is an external alternator regulator? my HO alt is doing 13.8 volts at idle and maybe does 13.9 at higher rpms so is there anything i can do to increase the voltage up to 14.5? i already done the big 3.

Well, good news...talked to Mean Green...gonna try a few things and hopefully my problem will be fixed!

Also, talked about running dual alternators...and keeping the MG 200amp for dedicated audio...possibly bump it up to 16v for the modded 1501d
