    Want to have more power.....

    Ok i have a stock system...everything *****....
and if i hook up my amp...it will run yes maybe at 12 volts but my amp can handle up to 18 volts i would like to have like a solid voltage going to the amp, like 14.4 or somethign liek that, would replacing the battery do that or what? because id like to have a decent amount of power coming from my amp for my subs
im thinking about getting Ng's red top but i dont know yet and im wondering what i should do....

A high output alternator and an upgraded electrical path is going to be what keeps your voltage constant with the engine on...

Plus batteries are only 12v, your alternator theoretically puts out 14.4v. You should be getting over 12 with your car running, but yeah, then what jack said. Do big 3, new alt etc...

Re: Want to have more power.....

A Red Top isn't going to help your reserve potential any more; it's a starting battery designed to give lots of amperage when you crank the engine. After that, it functions as a regular lead acid would.

um...i heard the big 3 increases your chances of blowing up your battery..is this true?
i know it helps with the flow of current and voltage...just want to know the negative side of the big 3

No. The most common failure mode for batteries that results in an explosion is a thermal runaway condition, which requires the current to be disproportinate to the charging voltage.

That usually results in a nice fireworks show.

Re: Want to have more power.....

Do the big-3 upgrade, and if you are still worried about blowing up your battery put like a 200+ amp anl fuse in line with the battery and alternator, so just in case your alt does decide to "shock" your battery, the fuse will blow before the current gets to it and you'll be back down to ~12v.... way better than replacing a failed battery

    back at it...
