    Re: alt over charging battery??

id suggest the big three to handle the extra current. other than that, no.

id also suggest upgrading the big three first and see if that helps. a single JL1200 watt amp shouldnt create a massive strain. try the big three first, if you need more look into an alt re-wind. much cheaper than a new alt.

    Re: alt over charging battery??

getting a new alt might fix your problem, you might have shorted it out when you did something and it may be overcharging because of that

It can't overcharge. It was a what if question. So no a new alt will not fix a problem that does not exsist.

    It can't overcharge.
If the voltage stays at a safe level...if the voltage increases, then yes, overcharge is a very serious problem.

Big 3 should be all you need. Definately nothing to do with the car's computer or anything.

    Re: alt over charging battery??

    www.motorcitysuperstore.com

i got mine form they. they are great guys. alternators are usually just a bolt on piece. i loosened the 'tensioner pulley' and disconnected my old alt via 4 bolts, put the new one in place, re-bolted it on, looped the new belt round the system via the diagram that was on the car in the engine, and tightened the pully back to normal.

took like 20~30 mins to do because the bolts on the **** thing were huge and long and they took forever to unscrew.

from 1~10, it was seriously like a 2 or 3.

What size alternator did you get from them? I asked them if they had 200a alts and they said they no longer make them because thy have had reliability issues with them. I just ordered from DB electrical, another ebay store for <$200.

No dont go for that alt, thats way to much, go to your local auto zone, or napa, and they will have the alt that u need, or they can order it, i just put a brand new alt in my truck and it cost me $60 with a one year warrenty, the liftime was going to be around $80 but i didnt have the extra 20 bucks at the time and i needed it right then, as far as installing it, altanators are very easy to install, just unplug your battery, release the tension on your belt, by the pulley, and umplug and unbolt everything, then just follow those steps to put it back
