Can You Hook up 3 subs to 2 amps??

OK, right now i am running 4 diamond audio 10" MKII M6 subwoofers at 800watts RMS each, and 1200watts max....The subwoofers are dual 4 ohm, and they are currently wired in parallel so 2 subs are hooked up to each amp at 1ohm....The amps are 2 viper d1200.1 mono channel 1 ohm stable amps...(1200watts rms, 1500max) - It currently sounds good, but i think the subs are lacking some power and could sound better....I was thinking about only running 3 subs instead....I sub wired parallel to one amp, the other sub wired parallel to the other amp, and have 1 voice coil from the 3rd sub to one amp, and the other voice coil to the other amp, that way it will see more power....IS THIS POSSIBLE??? The amps are 1 ohm stable, but i would rather not push them that hard, so this way they feed more power to the subs and they sound better, but they arent being run as hard....Will it work??? I am open to any suggestions!!!! Thanks for your time...

No it wont work, you would have to set those gains exactly alike, and those amps would have to be putting out the EXACT same thing. Try just running one sub per amp, at 2 ohms each amp. And read the gain setting tutorial in the amps section to see if that helps you at all.

have you discovered the difference of two versus three? Until you do, I wouldn't attempt to wire three subs to two amps.

Re: Can You Hook up 3 subs to 2 amps??

IMHO you are better off the way you are now, with 4 subs (two on each amp). If you take away one sub (and hypothetically assuming your wiring method would work), any increase in power to the other subs wouldn't be enough to make an audible difference. But, on top of that, your amps would be running at a higher impedence, which means the amps would be putting out less power, actually giving each sub less power.

If the amps are strappable yes you could run 3 subs with two amps, other than that it is not recommended.
