My subs stop working if on very long.

I have 2 tens and 1200 watts total going to them. They sound good and I am pleased with their performance. I do have one concern though. When I have them up loud for very long they turn off. I have heard that it is necessary for your ground cable to be as big as your power cable, is that true? I have a 4 gague power wire, and 8 gague ground wire, I am not sure if that is the problem, but I want to see if people think thats what it is before I fork out much on more 4 gague wire. Thanks!

    Brent

Sounds like your amp is shutting off after long periods of use. It could be overheating.......where are your gain and bass boost set?? And yes, the grounds should be the same. May or may not be the problem, but regardless it's something that should be done. For the short length of 4ga you need, it shouldn't cost more than $5

groud wires should be as SHORT AS POSSIBLE in regards to how your system is set up. and if anything, your ground should be larger than your power.

and you will want to look into the "big3" upgrade as well. might make your subs run a little louder\better and helps stop dimming as well.

go to your local install place and get some more 4awg wire, or go to www.knukonceptz.com and you can get ring terminals and wire for incredibly cheap.

at my local install place each ring terminal was like $4.00, online they can behad for $0.20~1.00 a piece. wire was $3\foot (4awg) and its like $1.25 online. figure tax=shipping and you have saved a crapload of money.

dont forget to fuse all + wires. good luck.

As recommended above, upgrade the ground wire. When the subs turn off, feel the amp, if it is hot, and I mean **** hot, then this is the thermal protection circuit of the amplifier kicking in. How are the subwoofers wired to the amp and what by model# are the subs and amp?

    Yeah, whatever

is the amp going into protect? next time it does it look an the amp lights and see if one is red. if it is it may be overheating or you may have the impedence wired too low, if you have it wired at one or two ohms then that might be too low, depending on the amp you have
