Running new speaker wire, any advice?

I'm running new speaker wier to my door and rear speakers tomorrow so I can just hook the amp up with it gets here........any suggestions or tips on how to do it? I'm thinking to follow factory wiring until i can get wires under the carpet then running them all the way back.......hopefully.

Keep it clear from your power line, but running it next to your RCAs is fine. Keep slack in the wire, and if there are any sharp edges you must negate, try dulling the edge or putting some sort of padding on it. (spare weatherstrip)

Don't put it anywhere it can be pinched by an occupant of the vehicle. Don't use the little yellow/orange twisty-caps, use solder or a butt-splice when connecting wires.

If the wires ground out anywhere, I don't think your amp will be happy! And if you compromise any weather seals, be sure to fix them with some sort of sealant. Beware silicon fumes, they like to eat speaker surrounds.

And I'd recommend a good gauge wire... 14 or 12.

    That's all I got.

i'm just goin with 16ga wire i've heard that its fine for most applications of this type. There are 2 places i'll have to intersect and possibly run along the power cable for a good 3ft.......will this add alot of noise or will i be ok? If not, how far should i run the speaker from teh power cable?

I'd try running it down the opposite side from your power, if possible. If it's not very easy, try shielding the speaker lines.

I'm not sure what you could use that you might have around the house... toroidal noise dampeners would be great (those funky magnetic rings) or EM shielding from an old printer cable.

I'd look for a second opinion on whether or not that little distance will cause noise. I can't be 110% certain it will.

i've got two parallel runs of 12ga for my front speaker amp, wrapped in Techflex and ziptied to the main 2awg power feed to the distribution block - no hint of radiated or conducted noise into the system.

    YMMV.
