    Need Help with Wire Gauge

I'm trying to wire a 2-amp system and need help judging the required wire gauges.

The first amp is a Rockford 300S which will be powering my front speakers, the second is a Rockford 700S which will be powering my subs.

What I have so far is this:
2 Gauge wire for the battery to the distro-block and to ground the battery
4 Gauge wire for the distro-block to the 700S and 300S (I know that 8 ga. works for 300 watts, but I haven't found any distro-block that has a 4 and 8 gauge output).

The problem is that I need a 50 amp external fuse for the 700S, but the 300S has an internal fuse. Should I still get a 50 amp fuse or would the presence of a second amp on the circuit require a larger fuse?

Also, what gauge speaker wire should I get for this setup?

Re: Need Help with Wire Gauge

Your distrobution block needs to be fused. Any time you decrease wire size, there needs to be a fuse. You should get a fuse big enough to protect the wire itself and place it within 18" of the battery. You should also have a fused distro block when the wire gauage decreases....and you can put your "amp fuses" in there (the 50 amp you need for the 700S, and then whatever size you want on the 300S).

Re: Need Help with Wire Gauge

don't you have a fused distro block? If you don't, then maybe you should invest in one...I'm running kind of the same power distribution setup in mine...2awg from the battery, going to a Stinger block with a 100A ANL fuse going to the 1200.1 via 4awg, and a 60A ANL going to the 500.2 also on 4awg - even though that amp is internally fused.

Fused blocks make things so much easier.

AFAIK, 16awg and up for speaker wire should be fine.
