I'm getting ready to upgrade my alt. to battery wire from 8 gauge to 1/0. I have a couple questions about it. First, do I need to fuse/circut breaker both ends of the wire? I heard the battery could explode if you didn't fuse the end closest to your battery. I'm not sure if I have any room to put a breaker/fuse on the engine. Second, would breakers or fuses be better? I'm thinking I'm going to use a 200 amp breaker or a 250 amp fuse. The alternator I'm going to install is 170amp so 200amp breaker shouldn't pop unless there is a short. One of the nice things about breakers is they cost about the same as a nice fuse holder/fuse. Also, if something bad happens while I'm on the freeway I could just reset the breaker vs trying to find a high amp fuse.
