Is there a such thing as too much power?

Can you over power an amp by giving it too much juice like I have a smaller amp that's getting hot where the power and grounds go in, now it's not my maxximus amp but still I'm just curious? I didn't thin you could ever have toooooo much power ?!?!

yes you can fry an amp with to many volts but usually its a lack of power that gets them hot. probably trying to get more out of the amp than it was made for.

Loads draw power from sources, so no, you can't. You can make more power available than a load, the amp, can draw, but it will just be surplus.

Would it make it hot where the power and ground inputs are, cause that's the ony place that gets hot the rest is cool

Re: Is there a such thing as too much power?

If your voltage is within the normal range and your wire and power supply (batteries, alternator) are sufficient the only thing that would make those connections hot would be resistance. And if that's the case it's probably because of a dirty or loose connection at the amp. It could even be a cold or broken solder joint on the board.

Would a bad ground connection cause it??

Re: Is there a such thing as too much power?

bad ground would but the wire would usually be hot as well. its probably normal for that amp, or something is wrong inside.

Re: Is there a such thing as too much power?

I'm guessing the boss amp is HIGHLY INEFFICIENT.

    All day I'm clippin'
    voltage be dippin'
    I don't give a damn,
    cause my trunk always hittin'!

creating a proper sound wave. Step one, turn it up until clipping. Step two, done.
