At what ohms is an aftermarket HU is stable (87 Buick Grand National)?

    Hey guys!

I currently have an 87 Buick Grand National and am trying to replace the speakers. The car has a 6 speaker system and the front 4 speakers are wired in parallel (2speakers per channel). The original ohms across each of these parallel channels is 2.85 ohms (1/(1/4+1/10)). The HU has been upgraded to a Pioneer DEH-P76DH unit running 4x22Wrms.

I want to replace the speakers with 4ohms speakers all around, but doing this to the parallel wired speakers will drop the ohms seen by the HU to 2ohms (down from 2.85 ohms). Would this cause issues for my headunit?? Overall the HU would see 2ch x 2ohms (front parallel) and 2ch x 4ohms (rear)

    Thanks for the help!
    Kolme

Why not just get 2 ohm speakers for the rear so the HU will see 2 ohms per channel evenly?

Oh, so I should try to make the channels have equal resistances? I guess I was kinda worried that the HU wouldn't be able to handle it. I'm guessing that by making all the resistances 2 ohms that you don't have to turn up the volume as much meaning that the HU's amp doesn't have to over stress itself?

    Thanks again,

YES I would make all of the channels have equal resistances, I do not think that it will harm your HU as Infinity & several other manufacturers have been making 2 ohm replacement car stereo speakers for years which I have ran on pioneer & kenwood HU power in the past successfully... 2 ohm stereo should not be a problem, however I would definitely consider amping those speakers being that the HU amp doesn;t put out shyt for power and if you are going through the trouble of replacing them wouldn't you want to get all they have to offer out of them?
