    No power to my amp.

Last night I purchased a volfenhagen amp. I installed everything and it was working like a charm. I drove to work this morning and it was working great. I did have to ground the amp without a power switch, so this might be the cause of my problem. I got in my car after work, and there is no power to the amp at all. I've reconnected all cables and no luck. I was thinking it could possibly be a fuse? Thanks in advance!

No, I have not. How would I check them. What would I look for?

Re: No power to my amp.

I read elsewhere that a bad ground could cause the fuse to blow. The only way for me to turn off the amp w/out unhooking it from the car battery was to remove the ground. I did notice several sparks coming from the ground when I did this, so hopefully this is what happened.

Re: No power to my amp.

Just to clarify - The power cable for the amp runs straight to the battery, correct? Did you put an inline fuse on the power cable within 18" of the battery? Never a good idea to disconnect the ground from the amp while power is flowing. Either remove the inline fuse at the battery or, better yet, disconnect the negative terminal of the battery.

Re: No power to my amp.

if u are running an aftermarket hu they usually come with an amp remote turn on wire

im assuming it has to be a blown fuse or a bad ground. or possibly the size of wire u are running to the amp

to check the fuses, simply pull out the fuse and look at the little metal piece in the middle of it. if they are not touching, obviously its blown

to make the ground better, drill a hole to the chassis, or use and existing bold to maybe a seat mount, make sure that it is bare metal (use sandpaper, etc. to remove any debris, rust, etc.) then tighten down the bold with the ground wire. and make sure its not loose or anything

for best results, u want the inline fuse within 12" from the battery

If you're not running an aftermarket HU, you can still tap into the harness for a remote turn on lead ;-)
