Re: How much coverage do I need?

One of my friends had an Audiobahn amp with a meter with the needle. He had no choice but to put the amp on the box. The box had overkill bracing. The bass was hitting so hard it was rattling the meter and needle. It looked like it was about break. We put 2 layers of Peel n Seal on the back of the amp and screwed it back on the box. Peel n Seal saved the day again. The meter was perfectly still under heavy bass conditions. It must be my imagination that it works? I can't really tell that any of you have used it that claims it does nothing?

Peel and Seal does not work. Deadener works by the butyl layer contracting and expanding under vibration and turns that energy into heat and dissipates through the aluminum layer. Asphalt does not absorb vibrations. Their is empirical scientific data out there that proves even laying it on does nothing for you. Read up on the 1/4 wave theory.

This will get you started on the scientific information behind deadener and what each piece of the puzzle does and does not do for you.

The science is wrong or they can't figure out the proper term for what Peel n Seal really does. Maybe Peel n Seal is using dark matter to absorb the sound? I could point you to Peel n Seal before and after YouTube videos, but we both know real video proof is not scientific enough for you. I was never looking for the best deadner. I'd rather use Raamat or Second Skin. I'm well aware of what Peel n Seal is. My truck never sounded like a tin can without deadening. I just wanted to try it since I'm replacing the carpet. The interior has a few new rattles due to heavy bass, and that is my main concern. It is mostly plastic trim pieces buzzing.

Whether you like it or not P&S does stop vibrations/rattles. I've used it on quite a few cars before more deadener companies came out and prices went down.

It might just add mass and raise the freq at which the panel will resonate, but either way it will work.

Now for a diff question: which deadener will stay stuck to a roof and not come loose?

I've used 3-4 of the most popular last summer and ALL of them have fallen off or come loose in areas. Roofs were all dust/rust free and wiped down with acetone before applying. All were applied with a roller.

Great reason... I have had b stock 80 mil on my roof for 2 years without a single issue.

Coleman has some of the best CS I have ever dealt with too. Don't be so quick to judge that which you have no experience with. Maybe try stuff out instead of being an e thug.

Not how deadener works. In order to lower resonant frequency of a panel you need to apply the 1/4 wave theory. That would require 34 inches of material on top of the door skin.

You have lots of theory, but I'm guessing very little real world experience using Peel & Seal and building loud cars with no rattles...

What do you know about loud cars... You have only built 2 160+ of your own, and like 10 other 55+ vehicles.

Re: How much coverage do I need?

just gonna add my 2 cents. like 10 years ago we applied about 12 boxes of asphalt peel and seal to the entire interior of my friends honda crx. afterwards with no interior except dash and seats we drove around. It sounded like a mercedes in there after we were done. almost no road noise at all. before the p&s it was a loud as **** ride and after complete opposite. Deducing from this that the p&s actually reduced the amount of vibration of the metal of the vehicle there by making it a quieter ride.

Sorry dragon the stuff might not be the best choice but it does in fact do something.
