Problem with turning volume up, and sub or amp missing beats.
Hello all, Im pretty much a noob at all this wiring stuff, I just did my first wiring job myself today. Installed a JL 500/1, 10w7, and a cap. Everything sounds great at a mid range to lower high volume, although when turning up the volume or bass the sub starts cutting out. I have all the guages on the amp turned down, I am really stumped on whats the problem here.
If anyone has any information on what may be happening I would very much like to hear what you have to say.
Thanks Very much.

What gauge of wire did you run to the amp? If its too small then that could be the reason.

I used all the recomended wiring givin by JL audio. 4gauge wiring. Mabye its the 10guage wiring from my amp to sub, but I used to have 16guage and it was doing the same thing. Pretty sure its not the merchendice, everything is new.

Hmmm, honestly I have to say I don't know, I would have thought it was a voltage issue but as long as your within specs then I'm stumped for the moment. I had that same issue with my JBL amp in my old system but it usually started happening when the lights started dimming alot so I assumed it probably was not getting enough voltage through the cabling.

I'd look into the possibility of it being a bad ground like Jmac said, that could produce that type of response from the amp. Also my Taurus did not have a great ground point either, all of that will be corrected in my latest installation that I'm working on.

I checked the ground wiring, all looks good. I also took good guys and asked them, they said that I may have to run the power wire directly to the battery instead of under the foot pannel.
Ill check the dang ground again lol.
