Speaker level input : installing a sub in 2010 Prius jbl system

ok so I tapped off the rear output channel of the Stock JBL amp for the prius, But my sub works only at low volume and the moment I raise the volume the sub cuts out. Amp doesn't go into protect nor does it clip. The way I have it wired is tapped off the rear speaker outputs on the jbl stock amp, speaker wires are ran to the speakerlevel inputs on my audiocontrol EQS, from eqs goes to sub amp.

Now here's the weird part as long as I keep the volume low for about 10 mins of playing, I can then crank up the bass as loud as i want for as long as I want.. This makes no effin sense, is it something with the speaker level inputs, The prius electrical system? It's almost like the electrical has to buffer for a few mins before I can start cranking it up.

yeah that's what I thought but I cant find any documentation on speaker level inputs other than what I found on forums. Do you think having an amplified signal affects the speaker level input? I can't find anything about this on the internet.

what type of amp are you using. The prius electrical systems are not close to ideal when trying to add high power amps. check vehicle voltage at startup and after ten mins and see what you get. I would also have to battery checked out and make sure its properly working.

the amp is a dd m2a wired at .5 ohm, like i said tho after a few mins of low vol play it plays loud. Ill have to get my volt meter on it to really see, but as of right now it has no light dimming as it gets most of its electrical from the hybrid battery as well as the auxiliary battery

It sorta sounds like the amp needs time to warm up. Can you reconfigure the sub for a higher impedance?

Re: Speaker level input : installing a sub in 2010 Prius jbl system

Hmmm well I can wire higher but the subs would be wired at 4 ohm as they are dual 2 ohm and that would be such a waste for a m2a.
What I did was lower the input voltage on my eqs and that seemed to help. I've never had to warm up an amp this amp before, I think th input voltage was too High, making it lower helped it not cut off anymore.

Adding grounds to the battery seem to not be effecting it in any way guys..

Re: Speaker level input : installing a sub in 2010 Prius jbl system

Update. It seems it needs time to build up electrical power as the bass will not go full tilt right away. It will cut out and not play the sub at all but the amp is still on. This is weird, I suspect it's a electrical problem..the prius battery is very small and that's connected to the bigger hybrid battery for charging. I know there is some kind of inverter for power between the two battery's. man this is weird, I wonder if a regular headunit would fix this?

I would consider upgrading the factory 12v batt cuz they are in fact REAL small. I dont think an aftermarket deck will fix the prob.

Re: Speaker level input : installing a sub in 2010 Prius jbl system

they do have a tiny battery but could it be that small my subs won't even play longer than a few notes before cutting out? it does get plenty loud with no light dim when it has time to build up power over 10 mins of playing.

Well reinstalled my system with 4 gauge wiring and running at 2 ohms, still same problem with having the amp cut out if the the power is too much. It does play just fine after a very long warm up on low volume.

Your EQS has a balanced/unbalanced jumper and a ground/isolation jumper inside the case. What are these jumpers set to?

Never a good idea to send an amplified signal to an amp
