    Question about stiffening cap

Ok first off I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this, but I wasn't sure where else to post. But my question is what happens when you over load a stiffening cap? I've tried googling it and nothing came up after hours of looking. I don't plan on over loading a cap just curiously . I do have .5 farad cap that says its good for 500 rms/1000 watts peak. What would happen if you try hooking that up to a 3k rms amp? Would it blow the cap up? Or just make the cap worthless? Do any help here would be great but again I am NOT doing this, just wondering what would happen.

You don't need to hook a 3k amp up to a cap to make it worthless.

The cap will do nothing except tax your car's electrical more than if you didn't have one at all. Do the big 3 and ditch the cap.

Ok thanks but I stated I never plan on using it, just wondering what happens when you over load a cap. I've long gotten over the cap thing I agree there nearly pointless. But like I said in the original post I'm NOT planning on using one.

    Re: Question about stiffening cap

If you were to wire the cap in series, instead of parallel, it is possible to pass enough current through it that you might blow it up.

Do not do this, of course. Besides the obvious issue of it blowing sky high, they contain PCB's and other hazardous materials that can give you cancer.

what 3k amp is this? if it's a real 3k, anything other than a h.o. alt and a couple batteries is going to end up burning the amp up.
