    Wiring gauge question

Thinking of getting a Kicker IX500.1 mono amp (500 watts to 2 ohm). Looks like it recommends 4 ga but I already have 8 ga (Knu Kolossus amp kit) installed. Will this be okay to use? I would prefer not to buy and run new wiring if I don't have to, but at the same time I want it to be safe and draw all the power it can! Thanks

    Re: Wiring gauge question

dont be cheap , get the 4 gauge ,your amp needs sufficient power to run properly the 8 gauge might not be enough ,thats why the recommendation of the 4 gauge .

    Re: Wiring gauge question

Not trying to be cheap, trying to be smart! Since the wiring is fairly new and already ran, I'm trying to save money and time.

    Re: Wiring gauge question

not trying to be smart ,you just need the 4 gauge , because the kicker amps are power hungry amps .not hard to run the wire .

    Re: Wiring gauge question

follow manufacturer recommendations for wire size and fuse size. wires are also sized for voltage drop. running 8 awg wasn't worth the effort since it's so limited. 4 awg is the minimum i recommend for a basic system with modest bass as it's good for 125A.

have you been helped by me? i'd love to know. got a question? shoot me a PM.

    Re: Wiring gauge question

Isn't Knu kolossus the size of most 4 gauge anyway? thought it was nicely oversized. It would be in the best interest of the amp to get the 4 tho.
